Monster Hunter Wilds Focuses on Existing Weapons
Monster Hunter Wildswill not add new weapons to the already extensive list of hunting “tools” we’ve seen for years. The creators of the new game made this clear and also assured that they have “many ideas accumulated.”
The game’s presence at theTokyo Game Showhas been continuous, and during the event, Capcom allowed players to try it out.
In an interview with Multiplayer.it, the key figures behind the saga—Ryozo Tsujimoto, Kaname Fujioka, and Yuya Tokuda—answered several questions, one of which addressed a major topic of conversation among fans: new weapons.
It has been a long time since Monster Hunter added a fifteenth weapon to its playable lineup, the idea is always on the developers’ minds at Capcom, but there’s a reason why it hasn’t been realized yet.
“The truth is… it’s something we talk about all the time, constantly,” they noted. While they’ve never given up on the idea of adding new weapon archetypes, they simply haven’t done so in recent installments. “We have accumulated many ideas over the years about what weapons we could include. We always think about what a new weapon could bring to the gameplay without overlapping too much with the existing ones, without offering a similar experience.”
“Another thing we often discuss regarding a fifteenth weapon is that over the years, we’ve developed the 14 existing weapons a lot. Now, each one offers a very deep combat system and is capable of delivering exciting things,” Tsujimoto clarified.
“Now, achieving a high level of mastery, even with just one of them, has become such a complex task that it makes it extremely difficult to invent a new category that can immediately prove to be on par with the ‘legacy’ variants.”
“Additionally, we have to consider the issue of resources: it’s not that we don’t want to add a fifteenth weapon; on the contrary. But even if we had those resources available, we’d have to ask ourselves if it would truly be worth investing them,” they pointed out.
On another note, following rumors ofMonster Hunter Wildsexperiencing issues on PS5, with no Performance Mode and testing on the Pro model, the creators have assured that the final six months until launch will focus on optimizing the game.
