NetherRealm announced the character-collecting RPG Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Mobile is available now on iOS and Android.

Thefree-to-playmobile RPG Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is now available to play on iOS and Android. Previously NetherRealm revealed their character collector title roughly a year ago. Onslaught will dive into Kombat story, promising “high-quality graphics” and cinematic cutscenes”. Also promised is “bone-krushing kombat” which should be given for the brutal fighter.

Players will be teaming up with Raiden in order to stop the fallen Elder God Shinnok from collecting relics and regaining his sinister power. Grouping up with other players, fighters can battle the forces of evil in “massive real-time” battles. There can be up to ten fighters taking on these challenges. Players will have a team of four champions they will need to customise as they face even more menacing foes. As expected there are plenty of gruesome fatalities to unleash.

Progression in the game involves collecting and putting together a team and there’s certainly a lot of characters to choose from. The catalogue of characters includes Assassins, Warriors, Snipers and Defenders. All fan favourites are in the mix with Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Scorpion and Kitana all being playable. Then there’s the rare ones to collect such as Cyrax and Smoke. As you’d expect each are loaded with Special Moves, Affinities and Passive Skills. Players will need to improve their characters with better combat skills, gear and Relics.

As for Skills, these can be boosed in special Boss Tower and Chasm modes as well as through PvP via the Arena. Going face to face with other players to throw down during the PvP seasons to rank up the leaderboards. The game is free-to-play so microtransactions are expected as an option for progression. However, according to a recent interview with Digital Trend, NetherRealm Studios lead designer Mike Lee explains that levelling progression is “still fairly quick” without MTX. Players who play regularly will have access to quests and missions to gain all types of currencies, “nothing is blocked off”. Story content is promised to not be paywalled.

Players who are playing regularly will have quests and missions and all sorts of achievements where they’ll be able to get every type of currency there is in the game. Nothing is blocked off; the free-to-play experience is the normal experience.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is now available on both iOS and Android.
