New Absolver Gameplay Info

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer SloClap hosted anAbsolverlivestream today on Twitch and answered some questions about the upcoming martial arts inspired Combat RPG. They answered a bevy of questions from fans in the chat while sparring in some of the game’s locations. We peeked into the stream and have some of the highlights gleaned from their answers. Keep in mind the game is in pre-alpha so things are very fluid and subject to change.

Some very interesting things in there, especially the prospect of a dedicated arena with rankings. Looking for some more insights into what the game is about? Check out ourhands on previewof the game from E3. We had a blast with it and are looking forward to seeing how the development shakes out.

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

InTHIS VIDEOthe Creative Lead for the game comments on the fact that the game is more about timing (oversimplification on my part) rather than skill. To continue paraphrashing, one of the biggest challenges in being competitive in fighting games is the coordination it takes for all the different button/joystick combinations and the manual dexterity that comes with that. Absolver aims to simplify that and make it so that having a high level of dexterity is no longer a barrier for enjoying a fighting game.

This is especially intriguing for me as someone who enjoys fighting games. As and older gamer, I can already tell I’m at a disadvantage to the younger, sharper gamers out there. My 13 year old daughter regularly outplays me these days. With Absolver, I feel like I might still be able to be competitive because I can use my experience without my old fingers getting in the way too much.

It has a heavy background in martial arts, as the devs themselves are avid martial artists and created the game to be a digital extension of them. It looks like a game that is going to reward skill over which weapon you picked, which should be music to Dark Souls PvP enthusiasts. That is if skill is what everyone is really griping about…

very interesting concept. definitely keeping an eye out for this

Since every player can attack every other player, it should make for some interesting gameplay.

P.S. I got to spar with the Devs at E3…was super fun

If it had invasions and more variety of weapons I would agree. It still looks like a interesting game.

I really can’t believe this game is not getting more attention on this forum. From what I have seen, this game has the potential to be the balanced PVP every Souls fan dreams of.
