System updates for DLC “ASHES OF ARIANDEL”.Adjusted poise values across the board. Poise is now more …
The fact they even clarified “improved” from “adjusted” is kind of shocking.
We can only hope they’re actually changing the poise mechanic rather than just giving the current mechanic bigger numbers.
I guess this is just different than the patch notes I’m used to with other online games, unfortunately until the patch actually comes out we don’t have much to go on apart from adjusted, improved and fixed.
It’s good to see FROM take another step in the right direction by changing a base mechanic like poise, how much they will adjust it we can’t say for sure. Hopefully they will look to change things like stamina cost for rolling and spells and recovery times in future patches.
Instead of nerfing straight swords, they’re buffing maces and axes? Interesting…though that won’t change the “I have to put exponentially less effort into spacing or timing than my opponent will need to put in to beat me” straight sword meta very much. Also odd that there’s no mention of glaives or spears anywhere here. Though my biggest disappointment is no mention of infusion adjustments : (
Astora’s and gotthard nerfs are welcome, even if I’d long ago figured out consistent means of besting these weapons. Wonder if that means my DMB gotthard character will have to reroll to something else?
The poise adjustments have me fairly excited. If it werent early morning I’d drink to the potential for more competitive ultras…but that’s probably my imagination more than it is any faith in From to make game-changing balance fixes to things that desperately need them.
Though the fixes to things like Wolnir’s make me a tad giddy.
no magic adjustment? well at least they adjusted poise lets see how it goes
It’s real.

It’s also up on reddit.
Mmmmm, poise. I imagine it will just be an increased multiplier on the hyper armor modifiers provided by heavier weapons (greatswords, halberds, ultras, etc) and by armor, but if it is a large enough increase, well… I’m an optimist, so I like to think it will be cool. That said, I was kinda enjoying not caring about armor stats and running around wearing Artorias set + Silver Knight greaves (because Artorias set greaves look terrible) and wrecking fools with the Yhorm’s Great Machete (AKA best ultra ever).
Also, better animations on hammers and greatswords? Greatswords already were mid-tier, honestly. I assume by “better” they mean “faster” and uh well fuck yeah that’s awesome. Prepare yourselves lads, Black Knight Sword meta incoming.
I wish…
