New Horizon Zero Dawn Character and Quest Information

In a recently releasedinterviewwithHorizon Zero Dawnlead quest designer David Ford, some information was revealed on thequeststructure for the upcoming action RPG from developer Guerrilla Games as well some of the game systems players can use to improve the main characterAloy’seffectiveness in a dangerous world inhabited by massive and wild roaming robots.

Aloy will feature options for improving herequipmentandskillsvia familiar systems that are found in other RPGs. Where the game takes things a step further are the variety ofweaponsand ammunition options, that allow players to precisely choose the perfect combination of tools for a specific task. This emphasis on thoughtful hunting was on full display during the E3 demonstration, and Aloy was shown to havenumerous optionsto deal with the very different types of robots she encountered.

Adeep skill systemwas also referred to that will let players fine tune Aloy’s abilities to suit their own particular playstyles. We can presume from gameplay footage, that there will be opportunities to improve stealth play and effectiveness with the different weaponry types, as well as more efficient scavenging of resources from downed robots.

Quests will be a combination of primary and secondary quests. But the game goes a step further separating the structure into main quests, which affect the world, tribal quests that affect her reputation with the game’s factions, and reputation quests that will increase her standing with other characters in the game. This gives the game a 3 layered feel, where Aloy will be working on the macro and the micro at the same time, making changes that areboth sweeping and nuanceddepending on the quest being undertaken.

Horizon had an extended showing during Sony’s E3 press conference and we were able to see many of Aloy’s robot takedown options in action, as well as the beautifully detailed landscape. Withaction that already looks rock solid, hearing the approach to character development and quests gives us some insights into how the Killzone developer is approaching their first RPG.

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

All this info makes me feel my pre-ordering for shiny things was worth it :3(yes, i know, pre-ordering is bad, but ehhhh shiny things!!)

At least it’s got a release date now, right?

This game is looking better and better by the month, unlike No Man’s Sky

I’m really interested in this game. here’s to hoping it has a X Invert for camera.

Well I didn’t know the guy behind Fallout New Vegas’s story was writing for this game. That makes it much more interesting.

Watching this one closely.

Same here. I already have a pretty strong idea that the combat is going to be great. What I’ve been hoping to see more of is the character development and quest/story writing. Info like this is good to hear and has me increasingly optimistic. I’m not expecting it to reinvent the storytelling wheel like Mass Effect, just want it to have some bit of impact.

This game might be the one I’m keeping the closest eye on at the moment. Hope it’s half as good as the previews and info so far would have me believe.
