New Torment: Tides of Numenera Trailer Explores the Science Fantasy World of Numenera
Developer inXile Entertainment has released a new trailer forTorment: Tides of Numenerathat takes a closer look at the world of Numenera. The CRPG is currently in early access on PC and will be releasing sometime next year for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment. Check out the trailer above.
The setting for the game is called Numenera, and the game expands upon the foundations laid out in the Numenera tabletop game. It takes place on Earth, one billion years into the future, known as the Ninth World. In this time, many civilizations have risen and fallen. The Numenera are machines from past civilizations that can alter the landscape and physical bodies, and which the inhabitants of the world rely on for survival.
The trailer goes on to show some of the creatures andpeopleyou will meet along the way and sets the stage for the tensions between thefactionsthat call the world home. It then moves on to some of thelocationsyou will visit, such as the hub city of Sagus Cliffs, the Valley of Dead Heroes cemetery, the castoff haven Miel Avest, the crystalline Ascension of Kex-Lianish and the otherworldly Castoff’s Labyrinth which exists within the players mind.
All said, it’s a tour de force of the mystical world that players can explore both now in early access and when it releases in full next year. Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
I’m unfamiliar with this series.I expect that this will change soon. It looks very intriguing. Thanks for the coverage.
I don’t know about “combat” being the prefix, as they started off called Computer Role Playing Games since they were the first of their kind to be available on PCs. They’ve since evolved to become a catch all for any games that have retained that original formula, most often being called Classic instead of Computer by players. All research I’ve done for a piece I’m writing seems to use Classic as the new stand in prefix.
In any matter, I think the world is really what has drawn me in. It’s just so different and alien to anything I’ve seen before.
CRPG stands for:CombatRolePlayingGame
I am following news about “Tides of Numenera” for some time. Sounded interesting from the beginning. I just hope inXile will find a way to blend a good SF&F story with decent game mechanics. Based on trailers I saw, the “Combat” part doesnt look great, but it wasn
t a strength for Planescape: Torment either.
A CRPG is a classic RPG, which are your classic isometric, turn based or pause and play games like Baldur’s Gate, Divinity Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity etc.
This looks interesting. What is a “CRPG” though?
