New World Fire Staff Build 2024 - PvE & PvP

New World Aeternum FIre Staff Build Information

TheFire Staffis anAoE-focusedweapon, meaning its abilities are designed to hit multiple targets. This makes it less ideal when you’re trying to pick off single targets during quests, as it can easily pull more enemies than you can handle. However, it shines in situations with lots of enemies, like when you group up a bunch ofmobsduring questing, indungeons, or in larger-scalePvPwhere players are bunched together. It’s great for those situations, but not as efficient inone-on-one combat. The main reason is that usingAoE spellsto hit a single target isn’t mana-efficient, as they’re designed to hit multiple enemies, and you’ll eventually run out of mana in longer fights. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not that it performs badly against single enemies, it just performs way better against groups. The addition of lock-on in New World Aeternum also drastically helps the Fire Staff land its spells and light and heavy attacks.

New World Aeternum Fire Staff Pros:

New World Aeternum Fire Staff Cons:

Now let’s dive into theFire Mage skill tree, starting withPillar of Fire. This ability dealsAoE damagein a targeted area. With the new lock-on feature, aiming Pillar of Fire will be easier, but you still need to watch out for the tricky depth perception. Also, it has a high mana cost. Progressing this skill line allows you to deal more damage based on the smolder stacks the enemy has as well as recover 15% of your max mana per hit.

Next isMeteor Shower, achanneled abilitythat deals consistent damage over time by raining fire down in a 4.5m radius. Since it’s a channel, you can be interrupted by enemy attacks, so you’ll want to use it in situations where you’re safe from harm—like standing on higher ground where enemies can’t reach you or hanging back in a dungeon while your tank holdsaggro. It’s also useful inPvPwhen enemies are grouped up. It’s not great for solo questing unless your damage is high enough to quickly wipe out enemies before they interrupt you. Progressing this skill line grants yougrit, which prevents you from being staggered while channeling as well as inflictingdiseaseon enemies hit, reducing their healing rate.

Then there’sFireball, using this skill is easier now with the lock-on feature..FireballdealsAoE damageand leaves a burning effect on the ground, damaging anything that stays in it. The best way to use it is to wait until enemies are close, then throw it at their feet so they remain in the burning area. If you throw it from a distance, they’ll likely run out of the burn zone, wasting a lot of the ability’s potential. In dungeons,Fireballworks well when you throw it into a group of enemies focused on your tank, and inPvP, it’s best used when opponents are grouped up or right on top of you. Progressing this skill inflicts enemies hit withSmolder, dealing damage-over-time, while restoring 10% of your max mana and reducing your Fire Staff cooldowns.

The capstone ability in this tree,Runes of Helios, buffs you withEmpowerand significantly boosts your damage while you stand still, but it’s tough to remain stationary during regular questing orPvP, where you need to stay mobile to avoid attacks. It’s mostly useful in dungeons duringboss fightswhen you have time to plant yourself and unleash damage. If you’re focusing on dungeons, this might be a good pick; otherwise, it’s better to choose another option.

Now for thePyromancer skill tree. The first ability isIncinerate, a fastAoE attackthat sets enemies around you on fire. It also inflicts the enemy with aSmolderdebuff, dealing damage every half second. It also grants you grit while casting, preventing you from being staggered. It’s a great skill, especially forPvP, as you can pull multiple enemies, hit them withIncinerate, and deal solid damage while continuously chipping away at their health. Once upgraded, it hits twice, making it even more effective. Early on, you’ll rely onlight attackssince many spells don’t hit their full potential until upgraded. Progressing this skill line allows you tocleanseadebuffand gives youEmpower.

Next isFlamethrower, which channels a stream of fire in front of you. It sets enemies on fire and deals damage over time, but it’s not very mana-efficient. LikeIncinerate, it also inflicts the enemy with aSmolderdebuff. It drains a lot of mana for the damage it deals, so it’s not ideal for questing or tackling one or two enemies. It’s more useful in dungeons orPvPwhen you can hit several enemies at once, but since it’s a channel, it can be interrupted by attacks, so use it carefully. Progressing this skill line increases the range and damage of theflamethrower.

The last ability isBurnout, a mobility skill that lets you dash forward, setting enemies in your path on fire. Enemies hit with this skill also receive theSmolderdebuff. It’s excellent for both mobility and damage, making it useful for any build. Pair it with a weapon like therapierand go for anintelligence build, and you’ll haveBurnoutfor mobility and the rapier’sFlecheability for even more movement. This allows you to close the gap on enemies or escape quickly.Burnoutis a fantastic ability for resetting in combat, catching up to targets, or getting away. It’s easily one of the best abilities in this tree and across different weapon trees.

The capstone ability in this skill tree,Backdraft, triggers an explosion if you hit an enemy with three stacks ofSmolderusing aheavy attack. This consumes allSmolderstacks and covers a 2m radius. This ability is highly useful for bothPvPandPvE, considering how easy it is to inflict enemies withSmolderand hit them with a heavy attack, especially now that you can lock-on. Overall, I feel that this is the superior capstone.

There are several solidsecondary weapon optionsto pair with theFire Staff. TheRapieris a great choice for mobility and melee combat, while themusketoffers excellent long-range damage, complementing the mid- and short-range capabilities of the fire staff. TheIce Gauntletis another strong option if you want to add moreAoE abilitiesor slow down enemies. You can layerAoE spellsone after another, creating a powerful crowd control combination. These are the primary weapons to consider if you prefer a hybrid playstyle. For melee, therapieris your best bet, so keep that in mind when choosing your secondary weapon.

One important point is that some weapons come withgem slots, allowing you to socket specific gems that make them scale withIntelligence. This opens up more flexibility in your weapon choices. For example, you could pair aGreat Axewith yourFire Staffby slotting agemto make it scale withIntelligence. While it won’t perform as well as a pureStrength buildon a great axe, it does give you the option to mix weapons that typically don’t align with your stat build.

When it comes toarmor, light or medium is the way to go.Light Armorprovides a 15% damage increase and grants adodge roll, which is great for creating space since the fire staff is a ranged weapon. However, it comes with 10% increase in crowd control duration. Maintaining distance is key, especially in light armor, as you want to avoid engaging in melee combat where you’re more vulnerable. Thedodge rollhelps you create separation, allowing you to deal damage while avoiding hits.

Medium Armor, on the other hand, offers no damage boosts but also has no drawbacks. It provides more defense thanLight Armor, making it a solid option if you want better protection while still retaining some mobility. Ultimately, both options help you manage distance and avoid damage, so your choice depends on whether you prioritize more damage or better defense.
