New World October 2022 Dev Update Talks About The Team’s Next Steps

Oct. 25, 2022

New World sheds light on its upcoming plans as the developers sit down and discuss their ideas.

The team at Amazon Games took last night as an opportunity to discuss their plans for their MMORPG. Members of the New World to Go Podcast helped moderate the hour-long show. During this time, they were able to touch upon the roadmap, and changes to weapon balancing, territory control, and crafting.

New World’s recent expansion, theBrimstone Sands updatebreathed much-needed new life into the game. This, along with some Halloween goodies, has bumped the player count from about 20k concurrent players in July to a massive 70k a week ago.

The last period’s roadmap was divided into three major seasons: Spring, Summer, and Autumn. It started off with theTemper’s Heart expedition and the addition of the Blunderbuss weapon. Next, the explorers were treated to the Barnacles & Black Power Expedition as well as the addition to a raid group finder. Autumn, of course, brought upon the Brimstone Sands and the Greatsword.

Looking forward, the team did not specifically mention any timings. However, we can expect to see Leaderboards being implemented into the game. Because of this, the best factions in the game will receive their time in the limelight. A feature such as this will definitely cause a resurgence in everyone’s competitive spirit.

Speaking of competitiveness, Cross-ServerOutpost Rusheswill also be implemented quite soon. Other instanced content for cross-realm activities will also follow shortly after this.

In terms of actual new content, we can be sure that a new Expedition will be coming in the upcoming months. The holiday season’sWinter Convergencefestival will also undoubtedly make its return.

The Brimstone Sands update for New World also marked a new precedence. Players should expect that the update’s zones will be used as a template for future content. Meaning, the quests, activities, and even environmental design will follow the expansion’s rigid standards. Oh, and a new Giant Sandworm fight will make its way through the sandy dunes.

More options to look stylish will also make their way into New World. First and foremost is the implementation of a proper Transmog system. Players will also get access to better gear set management options, ensuring that they’re always properly equipped for the job.

To garner even more hype for the game, New World is going to be holding the “Return to Aeternum” event. This update coincides with the team’s decision to provide “Fresh Start” servers, wherein everyone will be starting from square one.

New World’s upcoming event will have four teams of three Twitch Streamers race through the game in order to accomplish specific objectives. Based on how well they do, viewers of each streamer will receive different sets of cosmetics.

Just some of the rewards will be the Desert Traveler’s Set, Studded Warrior Apparel Stet, Baalphazu’s Hideaway Camp Set, and the Lone Gladiator Apparel Set.

Objectives that each team needs to complete are quite vague at the moment and list only some ominous titles. Who could guess what the goal “Iron Man”, “Don’t Smoke It”, or “All the Land the Light Touches” could mean? Only time will tell.

Return to Aeternum will start on November 2 and last up until November 18.

New World will attempt to make blocking an even more important aspect of combat than it currently is. Specifically, Blocking in Group combat is going to have a pass-through to improve viability. In the same vein, Stamina Damage during blocks is also being taken into account. The Outpost Rushes will also be more melee oriented in the future, due to this change.

Weapon balances will also be more deliberate and targeted, instead of having sweeping changes across the board. This is so that there won’t be instances where one weapon type will have a larger impact than others. One specific mention was that of the Flamethrower; its abilities will have its mana costs increased.

Aside from that, there will also be some updates to how Territory Controls works. There were not many specifics. However, it was mentioned that players leaving a Company will be prevented from joining wars for the next 3 days. This might prevent people from “Company Hopping” from one guild to another during wars. Players will also be given a maximum number of wars that they can participate in, per day.
