New XCOM 2 Gameplay Footage: “Welcome to the Avenger”
On Thursday, 2K and Firaxis released new gameplay footage of their upcoming November PC release ofXCOM 2. Coming in at 12 minutes it shows a more in depth look at your newAvengerheadquarters. Shown are several of the important quarters in the ship, soldier and weapon customization and the missions interface. In the video we can see the game is building off of the framework of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, making for a familiar foundation and adding some new customization and gameplay options. The series’ great musical score is still there, as are the slick visuals in the menu interfaces. Players are going to have a lot of fine tuning options in this entry, the weapon customization in particular looks to be potentially very satisfying.
Regarding the story, we are let in on the fact that you, the commander, were in stasis as a prisoner and were implanted with a device in your occipital lobe. Your head of science,Dr. Richard Tyganpromises to uncover more about it through further research as the game progresses. You are then given the customary tour of the facility, viewing rooms like theProving Ground, meeting the individuals (including the deceased Dr. Shen’s daughterLily Shen) who work there and learning about the vital tasks they perform on the Avenger, all the while allocating resources forresearchandengineering. You also meet repurposed alien drones which are deployed by aSpecialistand can be modified to provided medical support or damage dealing.
The video goes on to show thesoldierandweaponcustomization options, which range from attitudes of the soldier to paint job on the guns. You are then given an overview of yourcommandtactical display and shown your different options formissionselection, including the newDark Eventsfeature. The game ends with a cinematic cutscene of the Avenger being attacked by another ship en route to a mission location.

Was really hoping for some footage I haven’t seen on the dev stream last night, but alas there was none. Oh well, soon I’m sure.
