Nioh Alpha Demo Is Out Today
Team Ninja’s upcoming dark Samurai RPG Nioh is available for download today on the Playstation Store. Published by Koei Tecmo, the game which has drawn many comparisons to Onimusha and Dark Souls is scheduled to release later this year exclusively on PS4. The game is set in the Sengoku period of Japan, around 1600 AD, when there were many warring states, and you play as a blonde-haired protagonist named William, who looks strikingly similar to Geralt from the Witcher games.
The demo will be available to download and play from April 26th through May 5th. As a bonus for giving the demo a try, players who manage to clear a stage of the Alpha Demo will be able to download The Mark of the Conqueror DLC which will entitle them to some special DLC in the full game. The exact details of this future DLC were not revealed. There will also be an online survey available during the demo period to collect player feedback so this a great opportunity for players to be part of the development process.
We’re all excited to get a chance to play this game, as the existing video footage of it has shown promising combat and atmosphere, as well as a hint of unique asynchronous online elements.
There is no concrete release date but we can expect this game sometime this year. We’ll of course continue to bring updates on its development! Stop by ourYouTube channeltonight at 6 PM PST where we’ll be streaming the demo for the masses!

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
Yeah the greataxe will take you down quick, heaviest weapon and all. I went minimal armor to be high agility instead, served me pretty well. Haven’t toyed with the heavy armors though.
Oh, I was wearing practically nothing, and the guy had an axe….that might explain it!
I’m not being hit for nearly that much – keep in mind what armor you might have on. Although, it definitely rewards reflexes i.e. dodge and parry at the right times. It’s an interesting blend of offense and defense and does remind me of Ninja Gaiden a little, which would make sense considering Team Ninja did that game. Haven’t beaten the boss yet though, 6 or 7 hours in. He’s not easy.
Huh, plays kinda like a methodical Ninja Gaiden, in a way I reckon……darn hard though, i’m assuming grunts doing 1400 damage is just for the demo……i hope anyway!Still, seems simple enough to get the hang of.
Yep, totally grabbing this now and beating it……I WILL BEAT THIS (hopefully)
To be fair, you start out with mariner garb and it appears William just arrived in Japan. As for how he knows all of these weapon arts, I imagine that is to be found out later on in the full game. Really liking it so far, about 6 hours into it.
Playing a white samurai in the Sengoku Era.
