Here’s the image in detail:
The tweet simply links toObsidian’s website, which has now been skinned with this same image. A follow up tweet links us to a forum titledProject Louisiana. What could it mean? A new game from the RPG legend could certainly be in the works, and as they have created some of our favorite RPGs, a new reveal would be quite exciting.
There has been speculation for a couple of years that the developer is working on Fallout: New Orleans. If this is this the case, many fans of the franchise will be thrilled as Fallout: New Vegas was received very highly by fans and will give them something to look forward to as Bethesda has moved on fromFallout 4and likely to the next Elder Scrolls game. Fallout 5 likely won’t be in our hands for years. Alternatively some speculate it could be Pillars of Eternity 2, although that seems less likely given Tyranny’s successor status.
Intriguing stuff! We’ll be sure to monitor any developments and bring updates as we know more!

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
When the devs say they’re going to do something, and when you pay for that thing, it’s really not entitlement to want that thing or to want that thing as you communicated that you wanted that thing.
The “entitlement” thing never sat well with me to begin with. It’s not entitlement to want or even demand things and/or refuse to support (or refuse to continue supporting) products if they don’t give them to you. That’s called capitalism, and that’s how it’s supposed to work. Yeah that video games are an artistic medium creates friction between opposing forces, you won’t hear me arguing that artists should be compromising their artistic visions, but that doesn’t make customers/potential customers asking for things entitlement. As soon as people start saying “but think of the developer/publisher” you’re opening the door to getting screwed over with games/game types/features you don’t want and of a lower quality, because you have failed to recognize the inherently adversarial relationship consumers should have with companies that sell stuff to ensure that you the consumer get the best deal possible. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve literally never had a problem with a busniess practice that has made it into an Obsidian game (unless there is something I’m not aware of,) but the only way to keep it that way is to hold them to the same standard to ensure I get the most for my money. Possibly including nice pants.
The only time I’d use the entitlement argument is when people who have little/no interest in the series as is barge in and start demanding things be changed to fit their desires. Like, ***k off, I was here first and I like it for what it is, go ask for a new series with those features instead of trying to commandeer this one. I don’t go demand DOOM be less violent, you leave Dark Souls alone (you damn parasites.)
Yeah I totally applaud the effort. It makes me wonder though, gamers are already entitled as is with promises from campaigns, can you imagine what people will react like when they are expecting a return on a financial investment? People already flip their shit when they don’t put pants they like in the game.
Yeah, they can’t be relying on “investors” who are investing 20 or 30 bucks at a time, but a lot of (middle class or upper middle class) people could scrape together a grand or 2 to support a developer they like if they (think they) can expect to earn a return on investment. Will they? No idea, but they could.
From what I understand, equity crowdfunding still requires a substantial investment to earn a return. You can’t just give 20$ or something like that.
EDIT: For this project the minimum investment is 1,000 which isn’t too bad up to a maximum of 2 million. So the opportunity for wealthy investment is still there. Outside of that there is your standard pledge option which gets you the game and goodies.
It’s official, it’s Pillars 2.
They’re asking for not just crowdfunding, but apparently crowd investing too. It would be interesting, so say the least, to see video game companies rely less on huge investments from multimillionares, and instead be directly beholden to the fans. Good or bad I have no idea, but interesting.
I’ll eat my hat if it isn’t pillars related. Polygon even accidentally posted a story a day early that more or less confirms it. (IT’s down now, but you know how information works on the internet.)
Updated with the last and final image. We’ll know tomorrow at 10 AM PST what it’s all about.
Today’s image has now been added. Speculate away!
I doubt it’s Fallout. The art style doesn’t feet the post apocalypse. Could be PoE 2 but I think it’s something entirely new.
Updated with the new images from the weekend. Looking more like Pillars 2?
This looks likely, with the recent release.
Then again, they might be using the same name in Fallout. They did go on record about having a Fallout take place in the South.
Who knows. Fallout 3 was pretty religious in theme, with the bible passage regarding waters of life the crux for the story.
Starting to sound less and less like a Fallout game. Though it could be Fallout with a far greater focus on religious themes, but I doubt it.
Updated with new image shared today by Obsidian. Ideas?
Fallout as a series has failed completely. They can have fun trying to get 8 year olds to beg to their mommies for the next copy and paste first person shooter. Because that’s all fallout 4 is, a cheap boring first person shooter for kiddies.
The fallout 4 developers decided to enter the Call of duty market, and why not? That’s where most of the money is. Who needs pride.
It’s a Pillars sequel. Unless they intend to announce 2 projects at once. Current site skin refrences the Leaden Key, an organization in Pillars.
Fallout 4 was really different. And for me some of what they changed, like weapons and crafting were the best times I’ve ever had in the game, and others they changed, like the story and dialogue were the worst times I’ve ever had in the game.
People seem to be really torn on Fallout 4. A lot of old fans say it’s the worst of the series, while some say it’s one of the best.
I don’t expect Obsidian to get the chance to do another Fallout game, honestly. Especially after the epic screwing they got from Bethesda on Fallout New Vegas.
But hey, ya never know. Maybe we get a REAL Fallout game now.
I loved what they did with Vegas. Took me a bit to warm up to it, but I ended up enjoying it more than F3 overall.
