Obsidian Teasing Something New!

Recently, the developer went on Twitter and tweeted the following. It lists some of the titles they’ve made so far, along with an extra but cryptic entry at the bottom, which seems to tease something new that’s on the way. Other than that, there isn’t any other clue as to what it is.

If taking a knee during the national anthem while wearing your company’s uniform and, in the process, costing them millions in revenue isn’t even grounds for a fine or pay cut, but posting political opinions anonymously gets you fired you’ll forgive me if I find something inconsistent. People’s personal politics should be their own business. When people are forced into unemployment for their politics, as happened to one of my own family members (albeit 3 generations ago) when she found herself on the Hollywood “blacklist”, it’s fascism via culture.
……………………………………………………TSMP, if you’re listening, I have some ideas I’d like to float your way.
His forum profile wasn’t his name – they just knew it was him because as he participated a lot in RPG Codex he had mentioned that he wrote / made games. Similar to you saying some random clues like the place you live, the type of work you’re looking for or doing, etc… that’s used as “social engineering” to construct your profile and out your ID. Disgusting practice IMO.
It’s why you see a lot of people posting here who don’t tell you a lot about themselves, particularly those that work for dev studios and media. There’s a lot of incognito devs around the site xD
Right, from what I understand is he was linked directly to the comments, and didn’t have anonymity. That led to issues, and unfortunately in the world today, the loosest, most annoying voices get their way.
That’s a problem with social media. It’s why my Facebook profile has no relevant information to my life besides a few essential things, privacy settings maxed out and I try to avoid posting anything, because all it takes is one idiot to ruin things. Look at the streamers who get SWAT called on them, just as a “prank”.
Gotta be careful these days.
I don’t know Lich, I personally am a big fan of privacy and would never tell people who is who behind the screen names on the site. People should not be persecuted for casually stated opinions on anonymous forums. If you go on a twitter rant on your own name it’s one thing, but if you post something that people don’t like under “Lich180” it really should not be anyone’s business to discover who you are and get you fired. As long as your statements aren’t criminal, any “controversial” opinion under a screen name is not associating your company with it or reflecting on them.
Either way, it doesn’t look like Obsidian did anything except accept the guy’s resignation, so I don’t think they deserve blame or praise in this unfortunate process.
Not to get too political, but if you work for a very public company, you keep your mouth shut about anything that could be deemed “unsavory” or “mean”, because that company will fire you faster than you know what happened. That preserves their reputation, and keeps everyone from freaking out about how they have a “insert title here” person working for them.
Better to have a zero tolerance policy and fire someone undeservedly than to have your entire company tank because you have a few people slander you.
Anyways, Obsidian is one of the few developers I follow, and they have a very good track record so far. Hopefully this is something good.
I was not aware of this, but it sounds like the guy resigned because he didn’t want to bring down the game’s PR.I don’t approve of witch hunts like this, but if Obsidian didn’t actively fire him I don’t see what they did wrong?
If they hadn’t axed Casey Collingshead over his personal political opinions they might have my interest. As it is, I will never buy another Obsidian product again.
