Palworld Roadmap Teases Raid Bosses, PVP, and More
Palworld gets a content roadmap that details its plans for the immediate, short-term, and long-term goals.
The success story of the sudden hitPalworldis a very unusual one. Despite it being a smaller indie company with only four games under its belt, Pocketpair seems to have tapped into a market that we didn’t know existed: Pokemon fans outside of Nintendo’s ecosystem.
Palworld has become so successful in fact that the team has shared their content roadmap. They loosely outline the critical, the important, and the things to come.
The official Palworld X account Tweeted that game sales have far exceeded expectations, and as such they are experiencing some critical server issues, among other problems. They go on to detail the Early Access Roadmap.
As expected, the most pressing issues are those of the numerous bugs identified by the developers themselves, and the community. While some may not be game-breaking, a lot of them are tagged as “critical” by the devs themselves. One big issue identified was that a Palworld world state might experience rollbacks by itself, or loading screens might end up in an infinite loop. This is of course aside from the server congestion and connectivitiy issues.
The next priority, the ASAP items are a bit more vague. Pocketpair goes on to list “Key Configuration Improvements” and “Improvements to base Pal AI and pathing”. There isn’t any exposition as to what Configuration Improvements need to be made. At least Pal AI and pathing is a bit more straightforward.
Looking further ahead are Pockpair’s planned updates. While they don’t specify any timelines whatsoever, at least we have a general outline of what to expect. First up are two PVP mentions: PvP itself, and thePal Arena.
We can assume the first PvP would be for players themselves to participate in, and it could be an open-world style battle where you can set yourself as aggressive just like in V Rising. Or it could simply mean duels on a small scale. What’s more interesting is the Pal Arena, specifically for Pals. It would be fun to watch your most workaholic Pals duke it out with your friend’s minions so that the tamers could proudly gloat over their victories.
Another cool feature being planned is Raid Bosses, which would be pinnacle difficulty endgame content. Perhaps just like raids in other games, these could potentially require the cooperation of many players and their Pals to take down. Of course, these new raid bosses would need to live somewhere, so Pocketpair is also planning on adding new islands into the mix. Additionally, there are also new Pals and other Technologies being planned down the road.
On to the backend side of things, Pocketpair is aware that players on Steam would like to roam around the Palworld with their friends over on Microsoft’s Xbox ecosystem. While this isn’t possible just yet, Crossplay is on the table. Hopefully this also comes with a higher player count for maps on the Xbox ecosystem as “Various Xbox Feature Improvements” was also listed down.
There will also be Server Transfers and Migrations in the works, probably to allow a created character to visit various servers and other friends’ worlds.
Palworld definitely took the world by storm when it launched into Early Access last week, onJanuary 19th. Who would’ve thought that its initial 3-day success if 1.3 million players on Steam and 4 million copies sold would be dwarfed every day since? Just the day after, this number rose to 1.6 million concurrent players on Steam with6 million copies sold. On Tuesday, the concurrent player count soared to 1.8 million. Yesterday this record was topped again with a staggering 2 million Palworld players online at the same time.
The insane success, alongside the newly announced content roadmap, should be enough to keep interest in the game. Word of mouth has also spread far and wide, making “Pokemon with Guns” quite a success story.
