Pathfinder Kingmaker Builds: Ekundayo the Ranger

In thisPathfinder KingmakerGuidewe will take a look atEkundayo. He starts off as aRangerand this Build will focus on leveling the Ranger Class to maximum Rank. Ekundayo can be multiclassed but is best played as a Ranger due toArchery Combat Styleand his Dog companion that scales with Ranger levels. Also playing Ranger only is easy and simple, making this build great for newcomers.

This build focuses on doing the most damage possible with aComposite Longbow.

Ekundayo also comes with aDog Companionthat does decent damage in its own right, and the dog levels up automatically so no special attention is needed here. Rangers acquire the following Feats automatically:

Ekundayo comes with big modifiers toSTRandDEX.  Composite Longbow for these reasons is the best weapon for him since it adds STR modifier to damage and DEX modifier to attack roll. With this Build you want to add every Attribute Point to DEX to increase your chance to hit, which will otherwise be reduced due to theDeadly AimandRapid Shotabilities.

The best Skills to level with Ekundayo areAthletics,Perception,Mobility,StealthandLore (Nature). All these Skills come with bonuses because of STR, DEX and Class, so leveling them up further is the wisest choice. Stealth is especially important to get the first shot off outside of combat, which can make a lot of difference sometimes.

For Feats you want to select those that increase damage and the number of attacks you do. Unfortunately that comes with penalties to attack rolls, however, these are countered by high DEX, buffs and various Ranger bonuses like Favored Enemy and Quarry. And, some feats have to be chosen due to Archery Combat Style.

Hammer the Gap is one of those feats that is unfortunately really hard to understand, just by reading the tooltip. It adds damage in one round depending on consecutive hits but if one attack misses, the chain is reset. Let’s say you have 4 attacks in one round. If the first attack Hits then second attack receives a +1 damage bonus. If the second attack Hits then the third attack receives +2 to damage because the 2 previous attacks Hit. If the third attack Hits then the fourth attack receives +3 to damage because the 3 previous attacks were Hits. If any attack is a Miss then all bonus damage is wiped and it begins again.

It has been established already that Composite Longbow is our weapon of choice, but one of the great things about this Build is that by defeating Stag Lord you will receive a really good early game Composite Longbow calledSavage Bow, as well as theStag Helmet.

Light Armoris the best choice here due to no Armor Check Penalty that would otherwise affect Athletics, Mobility and Stealth. Accessories to use are any that would increase STR and DEX. There are alsoBracers of Archerythat add competence bonus on attack rolls.

Ekundayo hits hard but sometimes struggles to hit when Deadly Aim and Rapid shot are activated, and that is normal. However he is a perfect buffing target so put spells likeEnlarge Person,Bless,Courageand many other on him to raise damage and attack rolls to really high numbers. Send the Dog as well to deal additional damage or just make enemies focus their attention on it instead of you.

Starting every battle from stealth is highly recommended to get some damage in before the enemy knows that you are even there. Camouflage can be really helpful after the battle has been initiated, that way you can move safely into stealth again, positioning yourself further from melee combatants. This is a simple and very effective build for Ekundayo that can lead to some nasty things later on in the game. Thanks for reading and enjoy!

Free time is used for more gaming, training, watching MMA, soccer, movies and moaning about today’s world and the stuff that kids do these days. What do they do besides phones and CoD anyway?
