Persona 5 Tactica Gets More Info on Combat and New Characters
Persona 5 Tactica gets more information on its combat systems and new characters in a new update from Atlus.
Get ready to embark on an epic journey withPersona 5 Tactica, where the Phantom Thieves of Hearts are back in action! It’s a tactics game like no other, blending the slick turn-based combat and RPG mechanics that made the Persona series famous.
Summon your friends and their powerful Personas and unleash their awe-inspiring abilities on the battlefield! But here’s the twist that sets Persona 5 Tactica apart: theart style is seriously unique! Imagine a mix of awesome action and adorable chibi-like characters, bringing the magic of Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth to life.
We know that Joker and Morgana will be significant players in Persona 5 Tactica. The rest of the cast has also been heavily featured in a lot of the promotional material. However, we still have no idea what the newcomers are all about.
Erina from the new faction, the Rebel Corps looks to be the most prominent of the new characters. As she joins the Phantom Thieves, we do know that she has an extreme sense of Justice. Her headstrong personality and the skills of the Phantom Thieves may just be enough to turn the tide of battle and defeat the oppressive Legionnaires.
The main antagonist of Persona 5 Tactica is the pink-skinned leader of the Legionnaires, Marie. It looks like she is definitely up to no good, as she rules over this foreign kingdom with an iron fist. She is one not to be underestimated, as she has taken control of the rest of the Phantom Thieves. But what is the ultimate goal that she aims for? To hold the perfect wedding, it seems.
The last of the newly announced characters is a funny man named Toshiro. While he may look quite normal when compared to the rest of the cast, that does not mean that he is helpless. Far from it – Toshiro is actually said to be the next in line to become Prime Minister of the land. Ever a master strategist, Toshiro can look at the bigger picture even though his sense of self-preservation seems to be much higher than needed.
Elemental Attacks and other unique skills make their return into Persona 5 Tactica! It would have definitely been foolish to think that Atlus would do away with their elemental system from the Persona games. As to be expected, the various elemental skills will have a chance to inflict a status ailment on the target in addition to the elemental damage itself. Fire spells will cause enemies to take burn damage, shock can stun, and ice will presumably freeze.
The kicker here is that hitting a target with its elemental weakness while it is in cover could trigger a “One More” action that will open it up to follow-up attacks. Yes, that’s right – cover.
Persona 5 Tactica will be adopting a simple cover-based system since it is moving to a tactical RPG this time around. Players will need to carefully plan out their movement on the battlefield, as taking cover will be a huge part of success. Characters who end their turn while in cover will either significantly reduce the damage they take until their next action.
Some types of cover may even fully block damage outright. If a character is caught out in the open, any hits against them will trigger the “One More” follow-up attacks. Even enemies can make use of cover, so players will need to think of how to knock them off their hiding spots.
Persona 5 Tactica will also feature a party-wide charge meter called “Voltage”. This bar will gradually fill up over the course of a battle, depending on how much damage you take and deal. Once the Voltage reaches its maximum, you can have one of your characters make use of a character-specific unique skill with some game-changing effects. What type of ability emerges will depend on the character who made use of the Voltage, but they can range from damage, buffs, or even healing effects.
Speaking of skills, Persona 5 Tactica will also implement a skill tree for each character – something that was not present at all in Persona 5 Royal. Victories in combat will award players with Growth Points (or GP) that can be used to unlock special skills. The trees look to be quite basic, but it is nice to give players the option to pick the paths they want in order to strengthen their group.
Players can be free to tinker with their builds as much as they want as they can respec the skill points. It isn’t confirmed if this will be a free action or will require some type of currency.
Persona 5 Tactica looks to offer a fresh twist to the series, allowing players to have new adventures with their old friends. Pre-ordering grants exclusive Personas, Orpheus Picaro and Arsene Picaro. The game releases on major all consoles, specifically the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Windows and Steam. It is set for launch on November 17th of this year.
