Persona 5 Tactica Introduces the Rest of the Cast and Combat Tips

Persona 5 Tactica (re)introduces the rest of the gang while also providing early combat tips.

The Persona games are all about their colorful cast of characters, andPersona 5 Tacticawill continue the trend.Previous coveragehas been about the main three: Joker, Morgana, and newcomer Erina. We’ve seen plenty already of how the leader, Joker, uses his persona Arsene to unleash hell on his foes. Morgana is also definitely not a cat. And Erina has an over-the-top sense of Justice.

Now we see the spotlight shine (though rather quickly on Ryuji, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba, and Haru!

First up is the hot-headed Ryuji. He is Joker’s first friend in the mainline game and has stuck around thus far until now in this new dimension. Ryuji uses a shotgun in Persona 5 Tactica, which he can use with deadly precision. As expected, this weapon deals area damage in a cone. He uses Captain Kidd as his Persona, a deadly sailor who can shock his enemies.

Ann Takamaki is the second companion of the original game, right after Joker and the gang get her out of trouble. She uses an SMG to deal a short burst of damage or uses her Persona to burn foes instead. In a pinch, Ann can conjure up a bomb that will follow foes and detonate. Even if they’re within cover.

Next out of the gate is Yusuke, the eccentric artist of the group. His long-range assault rifle lets him pick off enemies from a distance. Alternatively, his persona can use ice magic to freeze enemies in place, or even summon decoys to take the heat off your group even if just for a while.

Makoto is also given a sufficient introduction in Persona 5 Tactica, being the “big sister” of the group. This high school senior thrives in melee, as her weapon of choice is some painful-looking metal knuckles. She charges into the fray and can get enemies out of position. Her Persona lets her cast Nuke-based magic and even allows her to run over enemies unfortunate enough to clump themselves in a straight line.

Futaba Sakura is another Persona 5 Tactica with a more unique twist. Just like in the mainline game, Futaba uses her persona to support the team while on the sidelines. It isn’t directly stated, but she will also likely be uncontrollable and cast healing or other restorative buffs at random.

The last of the companions is Haru, one of the last characters introduced in Persona 5. She is described as “well-mannered” and soft-spoken, though that doesn’t mean one should underestimate her. Haru uses a massive great axe to smite enemies, and a grenade launcher to blow them to smithereens. Her Persona also lets her wreak havoc on the enemies’ positioning, as it creates a gravity well that draws in foes towards its center.

We also had a few training sessions with “Seargent Morgana” wherein he expounds and reiterates the importance of somecombat mechanicsin thisturn-basedgame.

His first tip to excel in Persona 5 Tactica is to take cover before attacking. It looks like the Cover system will be of paramount importance in fights, as it is the most reliable way of mitigating or even outright preventing damage to your group. Any character, be it friend or foe, that gets hit while out of cover will be subject to a “One More” attack, which is essentially a free hit against them.

It thus becomes important to start and end your party’s turn in cover, to minimize the chances of getting knocked down.

So how do you play around this mechanic, if enemies will also try and be smart by hiding behind cover? Both Melee attacks and Skills let you circumvent cover or cause foes to be knocked back.

A well-placed melee strike has the potential to knock any target out of cover. Some characters, like Erina, can even knock multiple foes out of the way with her spear charge attack. However do note that this ability also causes her to move forward, so there’s a risk that she ends her turn out in the open.

Another option in Persona 5 Tactica is to use a skill that inflicts a status effect. These can disrupt foes, like Joker’s Eiha skill causing them to be considered out of cover, even if they’re cowering behind a wall.

Last on Seargent Morgana’s Persona 5 Tactica Training video series is the new Triple Threat mechanic being implemented. This is a newly introduced attack specifically for Persona 5 Tactica and lets the entire party have fun and go ham on dealing damage to any hapless foe.

To initiate a triple threat, you will need to activate a “One More” by hitting an enemy out of cover or any other means. Players must then surround the foe with all three of their active characters, creating a deadly Bermuda triangle of death. Any enemy within the triangle, whether or not they have been downed, will be subject to heavy damage.

If in case the currently active character can’t get a perfect surround on a downed foe (for instance, an annoying create is blocking the way), you can always swap to another character that hasn’t taken their turn yet. You can then adjust your positioning, creating a better angle of attack.

Persona 5 Tactica releases on major all consoles, specifically the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Windows and Steam. It is set for launch on November 17th of this year, and will also be available on day one on GamePass.
