Persona 5 Tactica Takes A Look at Battle Gameplay

In a recent trailer for the upcoming turn-based RPG Person 5 Tactica, we get a look at the battle gameplay that will make or break your strategy.

Developer Atlus has unleashed some more juicy gameplay of the upcoming Persona 5 Tactica a spin-off to the main series. Shown in this trailer are some new interactive elements, challenging foes and a few of the Persona-weapon fusions. This will surely give the Phantom Thieves some new ways to take on enemies in this more strategy-based RPG.

Instead of having free range to wander the stylish streets of Shibuya, players will be battling on grid-based battlefields. The battlefield is just as deadly as your opponents as there are explosive barrels, as well as dash squares for a quick manoeuvre to a higher point. Then there’s the more threatening kind of elements such as surveillance cameras that will notify enemies to call for backup.

The range of enemies will require tackling some fights differently than others in Persona 5 Tactica. For example the giant SUMO-MATON can really do some damage by grabbing and throwing whatever gets in its way including those on his own side. So getting too close could spell trouble. Another fun enemy is the Guarded Geisha, who can block frontal attacks using her handy umbrella. For a more slippery customer, the Slimy Shinobi can duplicate its form causing some confusion about which one to strike first.

Sometimes the best action is inaction. By not using an action in one turn, characters will gain one Charged Action in their next turn. Each Charged Action is different depending on the character, gaining different advantages and further ways to take advantage in a battle.

If you want to make more customisable Personas, head to the Velvet Room to fuse together different Personas to make new ones. This is also the place to make new powerful Persona-Weapons such as the Thanatophobia which isn’t available in the in-game weapons store. If the name is anything to go by, you’ll be having your enemies fearing death.

Want even more customisation? Characters can have sub-Personas. These can cause afflictions such as Dizzy, Shock, Sleep, Hyno and more. They also come with unique inherited skills, so having the right combo could have some devastating effects.

Persona 5 Tactica looks to be a fun spin-off with a more tactical edge. The new environmental elements will surely throw some spanners into the works. If that’s not enough challenge you can go all the way up to Merciless difficulty to really spice things up.

The game will be heading to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 17th.
