Project Baxter is a Dungeons & Dragons Game Being Developed by Starbreeze
Developer Starbreeze is developing a co-op multiplayer game based on the Dungeons & Dragons IP.
Currently under the code name Project Baxter, developer Starbreeze has revealed they are working on game under the Dungeons & Dragons’ IP. The Payday developer shared it will feature “co-operative multiplayer” and will have a “lifetime commitment” to the game’s service model.
According to CEO Tobias Sjögren, Starbreeze has always had Dungeons & Dragons at the “top” of their list in terms of IPs they want for future games. He also described the game as an “action-adventure”. Eugene Evans, SVP Digital Strategy and Licensing at Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro also added that DnD is having an “extraordinary year” and they plan to grow their “digital games portfolio through licensing and development”.
It will be interesting to see what kind of Dungeons & Dragons game will be developed under Starbreeze. Recently they released Payday 3 with a free update adding two heists Cook off and Turbid Station that Payday 2 veterans will enjoy.
With the success of DnD game system titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s plenty of room for more games diving into the realm of CRPGs or based on the DnD universe. They could be going into a more action-orientated game such as the likes ofDungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, although that one didn’t quite hit the mark receiving some mixed reviews on Steam. It did provide some fun co-op content, taking up a hack and slash RPG-styled gameplay. This type of co-op game could fit the developer’s style when it comes to the “multiplayer” aspect which was mentioned.
