Project LLL is a New Looter Shooter MMO Set in a Post-Apocalyptic Korea
Project LLL was just announced by NCSoft. It is an upcoming looter shooter MMO with guns, demons, and mech suits.
Announced a few days ago was Project LLL, a visually stunning looter shooter MMO by the guys behind the publishing of Guild Wars 2. NCSoft and NCing have been working on their new game, for an unspecified amount of time already. It looks like what you’d get if you mixedOutriders,The Division,The First Descendant, andWarframeall into one neat package.
Let’s see what’s up with Project LLL, and why you should take note of this upcomingMMO.
The Story of the game is placed in an alternate-history version of Earth. As such, we can visit various real-world locations such as Constantinople. Primarily though, the game will be set in a post-apocalyptic version of Seoul, Korea. The team has taken the extra mile here and has used tons of reference photos to recreate some key areas in Seoul.
The inhabitants of this universe are at vastly different levels of technological advancement. We have humanity (that’s us!), mutants, and demons all vying for control. This creates a nice mix of Science Fiction and Fantasy into a Looter Shooter MMO.
Project LLL is aiming to also have a seamless open world that players can explore. To aid in this endeavor, there will be various vehicles such as trucks or helicopters available.
The development team is also taking much care in the creation of Project LLL. They themselves are setting high standards into creating an impactful combat system. Everything from simple muzzle flashes and smoke to even spent ammunition ejecting itself from a weapon is being given love and care.
Fans of the first and third-person shooter genres should feel right at home with the systems that the developers are implementing here.
Project LLL will be played primarily in the third-person perspective, though there are some instances where it will swap into first-person. Players can be equipped with two primary weapons, such as assault rifles or shotguns.
Additionally, up to four gadgets can also be slotted. Project LLL’s gameplay reveal showed things such as a scouting drone can help reveal the locations of hostile and friendly entities and even the general battlefield landscape.
There’s even a shoulder-mounted missile system that can be used to blow up stronger enemies. This weapon can also be used to “paint” the battlefield, auto-targeting anything that happens to be caught within your line of sight.
Gravity grenades can even be used to destabilize enemy formations, especially those who hunker down behind sturdy riot shields. These throwables will cause foes to briefly float into the air, opening them up to a barrage of fire from you and your teammates.
Personal shields can also be deployed on the battlefield, protecting the user from orbital bombardment or even simple mortar fire.
Other combat features in Project LLL let you target certain weak spots on Larger enemies to expose the soft underbelly beneath. Players can also strategically hit certain armor plates to create their own targets. Some optional equipment can even enhance the player’s traversal skills, such as short jetpack bursts or high jumps.
Based on the gameplay footage, it looks like there are three major enemy types: heavies, tall and lanky, and armored mechs. At the moment, enemy AI doesn’t seem to be too smart based on the limited footage. Some enemy soldiers seem to be standing out in the open at times, or even going in front of their heavily shielded brethren.
Taking a page right out of Titanfall, the player can lasso onto enemy mechs, then initiate the UNLOCK protocol. This essentially hacks the mech’s entry system, allowing the player to hijack the robot for themselves. You can then use the enemy’s massive armored suit against them, pelting them with a hail of minigun fire. The minigun, in particular, sounds amazing with its thunderous shots creating a resonating echo as you maw through hapless soldiers.
Hopefully, the player characters have access to their own personal and customizable mech suit. It would be even better if Project LLL allowed a wide selection of body types, weaponry, and other attachments. An enemy mech had access to a guided missile system, for example.
Mech vs Mech combat will seem like an exciting affair, though hopefully, they won’t boil down to who has the higher HP pool.
The entire demo ended with the death of the enemy mech. Our player character just narrowly avoided their own demise by ejecting themselves from the burning wreckage of their own mech suit.
A gigantic Lovecraftian horror suddenly warps itself into existence, annihilating everything in the near vicinity. This alien creature was made up entirely of swirling and writhing limbs, dancing in an unusual way. It then proceeded to kill the player character as well with a well-placed laser shot to the head.
