Remnant 2 Unleashes the Hulking Challenger Archetype

Remnant 2 formally introduces the Challenger Archetype. He’s a midrange brawler that’s just too angry to die.

We just got to formally meet Remnant 2’s newest Archetype, theChallenger. This class was initially teased back in March of this year, but now we get to see more details of his kit.

If you’ve ever wanted to imposingly charge into the fray, laugh death in the face, and be too angry to succumb to your wounds, then this Remnant 2 Archetype is definitely up your alley.

Challengers will thrive in any life-threatening combat encounters in Remnant 2. When dumped into an arena filled with foes, Challengers will gleefully rip and tear everything to shreds while absorbing the brunt of attacks. They are heavily armored, and armed to the teeth with melee weapons and other midrange guns.

The abilities and perks of the Challenger all follow the same theme: heavy everything. Damage, armor, health, and more. Their prime perk is called Die Hard that literally makes the Challenger rise up upon taking fatal damage.

They are just too angry to die, and consider everything just merely a flesh wound. Instead of weeping on the ground because of their broken bones, Challengers will just literally punch the ground in frustration and get back to hitting things. The only downside of this ability is its long cooldown – they can only perform this move once every 10 minutes. But that just means they get to kill things for 10 minutes more.

Challengers also get a uniqueArchetype Traitcalled Strong Back. This makes it so that Heavy Armor is less cumbersome, effectively removing all of the disadvantages of this type of armor.

Now, onto the Remnant 2 Challenger’s skills! First, we have War Stomp. Just like the name suggests, this is a powerful stomp ability that sends out shockwaves into a cone in front of the caster. Due to the extreme force of the strike, the aftershocks are enough to stagger any enemy. Given enough charges, War Stomp can even stagger Elite enemies.

Just like the Juggernaut in X-Men, the Challenger’s Juggernaut ability will create an ultimate and unstoppable killing machine. Juggernaut will greatly enhance the user’s melee prowess, as both his damage and attack speed will be improved. Challengers can also close gaps much quicker with enhanced movement speed and the ability to simply shrug off damage.

Last is Rampage, which is like Juggernaut but for ranged weapons. It also drastically increased weapon Fire Rate, Reload Speed, and Movement speed. However, the kicker here is that the more the Challenger deals damage, the more stacks of RAGE he gets (all caps intended). Rage can stack up to 10 times with each stack increasing Ranged Damage by 5%. Once 10 stacks are accumulated, the Challenger goes Berserk instead which doubles all of the Rampage benefits.

It looks like the Challenger might be the toughest of Archetypes available in Remnant 2. While we didn’t see his other perks in the introduction video, we do have an idea of what he’ll be getting. His Damage Perk will likely be Close Quarters, Intimidating Presence for the Team Perk, Powerlifter for Utility, and Face of Danger as his Relic Perk.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, the Archetypes in Remnant 2 are looking to be quite distinct this time around.Gunslingerslook to be the ultimate pistoleers who can unleash a literal Bulletstorm into the middle of their foes.Handlersalso look to be quite fun, especially since he gets to command (and pet!) a cute Doggo whose bite is stronger than his bark.

Also because of the introduction of Prime Perks, the Archetype selection will no longer be just about your starting loadout and the choice will be much more impactful later on in the game. We also know that the system will be flexible as the Archetype Traits will be unlockable for all other characters you create once you max out that level.

This is all before Dual Archetypes, which is essentially the game’s multiclassing system. You will be able to mix and match skills and traits, but you won’t be able to get the secondary Archetype’s Prime Perk.

Remnant 2 doesn’t have a release date or price point just yet. Hopefully, we get more information on its release soon. It is shaping up to be quite the looker, especially since its areas are all unique and visually stunning, especially theYharnam-esqueDran.
