Rosaria, Mother of Rebirth: A Key Link in Dark Souls 3 Lore

Traveling throughDark Souls 3we encounter lots of neatly designed characters who touch and/or intrigue us with their stories so much that they make us engage in one of the most exciting things about Dark Souls – exploring the world to find pieces of info we can put together to finally figure out the complete story.

However, there is a certain character, who turns out to be especially interesting and imporant, as, she in fact links so many different lines of the Dark Souls 3 story. And this character (maybe even surprisingly) isRosaria, Mother of Rebirth.

It’s really exciting that attempting to get to her story, we touch the stories of a rather great number of different characters around,  and even more excitingly –  both from Dark Souls III as well as Dark Souls I, linked to her both via parallels between some stories in DS-I and III as well as via actual lore (these characters include Queen of Lothric, Dancer of the Boreal Valley, Gertrude, Lautrec, Pontiff Sullyvahn and others). This allows us to see so many more pieces of the Dark Souls 3 lore puzzle and gives us a bigger picture of the events in Lothric, which we couldn’t have even linked without her!

With all those connections, solving her mystery lets us at the same time solve some really important, core mysteries behind the Dark Souls III story as well as gives us info on many other characters, simply because she’s linked to all of them!

In the title video I attempt to gather all the different pieces of her story, as well as stories of numerous characters related  to her together and discuss each of them separately in detail to have as complete a set of pieces as possible, and then draw out the relations between different parts of her story.

So, the below video demonstrates a chart that connects all the characters involved in Rosaria’s story or somehow related to her. These connections are directly via lore or as parallels in stories of the characters in Dark Souls I and Dark Souls III. Some relations are used to possibly help us understand Rosaria better, while others link Rosaria to the stories of different characters and allow us to explain them by figuring out Rosaria’s story:

Having all of the parts gathered in one place and all the relations figured out makes it way easier to come with theories that would fit all the conditions presented by different parts of the story .

So I hope it will help us to solve Rosaria’s mystery as well as explain stories of all the characters related to her, including, possibly one of the most intriguing and important mysteries behind the events in Lothric.

In the title video I also discuss several of the theories we get by inserting various assumptions into the relations we’ve figured out and combining different pieces in different ways. However, it’s quite likely that even having all of this gathered, I still have missed something. So please, feel free to join the discussion and correct me if I was wrong about something, as well as complete the story with parts that I’ve possibly missed. And what do you think? Which of the theories fits the story better?

With our hopes for aDLCto shed a little more light to the story, it’s so much more interesting to attempt to find the correct theory before the DLC comes out!

I enjoy playing Dark Souls and researching its lore, especially from the etymological approach, and thus I developed a hobby of making videos discussing various interesting things related to it (also, once I even came up with some fan-fic lore story, lol). Being a Souls fan it’s no wonder that I also love mangas by Kentaro Miura and works of JRR Tolkien. Generally I enjoy history, architecture and historical linguistics.

-_-

Haven’t yet watch the video but I have read the article. Have someone yet try comparing Gwynevere’s “chest” with Rosaria’s? I know, it’s crazy but hey, we got to try new things, right?

All I can confirm about Rosaria is that everything points to Gwynevere

and maggots

and maggot children

Its frustrating how nothing else gets confirmed. She may be tied by blood to any number of characters but without a background story I don’t consider that to be very interesting.
