Rumour: Is Sony Teasing a Bloodborne Remaster?

Sony seemingly teases Bloodborne remaster but quickly takes down the post after it gains momentum. Is this a tease or a stray tweet gone awry?

A curious tweet has got the internet spiralling as the official Sony Twitter account shares something Bloodborne. All it took to generate a trending topic was for the Sony to share an obscure and zoomed-in image of the Bloodborne cover to ignite the biggest bonfire of speculation we’d seen in some time. Let’s get into the finer details.

The post which has now been taken down, asked fans to guess what game was being teased. It didn’t take long for Souls fans to guess that it was part of the Bloodborne game cover. That’s all it took for many to wonder if some big announcement would be coming our way. But then Sony decided to delete the post. Usually when an account takes down a post, it could mean they have leaked something. Or they are getting too much heat for sharing something they shouldn’t have. There was no explanation for why this post was deleted, but it has some excited that this could lead to something more.

The post originated from the Sony twitter account, not the Playstation account. Usually, it is the Playstation account, the gaming publisher that releases significant announcements and news. The Sony account is more general. So why would they be hinting at an announcement on the Sony account?

There are a few thoughts here. One, they are garnering interest for the Sony account, using a clever ploy to generate buzz for the account. Two, someone could have majorly slipped up and didn’t realise how hungry fans are for any Bloodborne news. Thus, deleting the post. Maybe Sony just got tired of endless comments asking if they are releasing a remaster. And three, mistakes were made. Someone could have accidentally started a campaign for remaster buzz a tad too early than planned.

Either way, deleting said tweet has caused it to blow up even more. The responses? The usual twitter fashion of memes upon stacks of memes. Why tease us like this?

So far Bloodborne sits in its original state, running as aPlaystation 4 game, at 30 fpseven running on PS5. Many in the souls community have wanted a remaster of the game. Especially with new hardware now to play it on, the Playstation 5 version would make sense. Afterall, wouldn’t you want to experience Bloodborne in all its glory on a modern console rather than last-gen? A lot would need to go into enhancing graphics, but the outcome would be spectacular.

The community has gone as far as releasing (while unofficial) a mod to enhance the original game, to run at4K at 60 FPS. A modder/dataminer Lance McDonald who you might recognise from his many videos that have unveiledcut contentin Bloodborne to discovering thefinal secret in NieR Automata. But one of his contributions to the souls community though is the mod for Bloodborne. If they were to remaster or even remake, acut content bosswould be a great addition.

Adding further kindling to spark this speculation, Playstation recently reportedly (although not officially announced) are working on a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster. That follows the released The Last of Us remaster and most recently remake for PS5. If Sony are tackling some of its major IPs, why not Bloodborne? It still remains exclusive to Playstation, with no port announced foryears for PC. A remaster would be a great way to maybe not just boost Playstation 5 sales, but introduce a new generation of players to theAction-RPG.

One of the first Playstation 5 titles to launch designed specifically for the console was the remakeDemons’ Soulswhich delighted fans with itsbreathtaking visuals. After the massive success of FromSoftware’sElden Ring, it would be a smart move for a remaster to invite those who are looking to experience other souls games. It could be done by a company like Bluepoint, which are known for its stellar remasters and remakes. Bluepoint Games was acquired by Sony toward the end of last year, so it would make sense.

Hidetaka Miyazaki has said in the past thatBloodborne still remains onethat has had the most impact on him and the one that has stayed in his “heart” the most. This is wholeheartedly reflected in the community, as even now they are still unearthing itssecrets. So come on Sony what are you waiting for?
