Sand Land the Action-RPG Features Designs from Dragon Ball Creator; Launches April 2024

Jan. 12, 2024

Based on the manga Sand Land, an Action-RPG is coming this April 26th for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The visuals may look rather familiar if you’re a fan of Dragon Ball, as the creator Akira Toriyama is also the character designer for Sand Land.

If you’re not familiar with Sand Land, it’s a world created by Toriyama full of mech vehicles and delightful characters. The story is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, that has been destroyed by war. What’s left is a barren wasteland where the supply of water is greedily controlled by a king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asks the king of demons for assistance but instead gets the king’s son Beelzebub and his assistant, a Thief. This band of unlikely acquaintances then venture together coming across dragons, bandits and much worse. Sand Land is not only a manga but has a movie coming west later this year.

A new adaptation of Sand Land is coming in the form of an Action-RPG with a vast map and an array of vehicles to explore the world with. Playing as the main character Beelzebub, you will be in charge of leading these misfit heroes in search of a Legendary Spring hidden somewhere in the desert. Perils await as bandits, fierce wild animals and the Royal Army are all lurking. It seems to be sticking close to the manga but sets a whole new experience to enjoy first-hand playing as the rebellious Beelzebub.

There are an array of vehicles to unlock such as Battle Tanks, Motorbikes, and even Jump-Bots. The new trailer shows off a couple of interesting ones that can even hover above the ground.

The new trailer release shows some of the story beats and a peek at the vehicle gameplay awaiting fans. One particular iconic vehicle is the Hovercar, which can hover over the surface of wetlands and other rough terrain. Boosting its floating abilities to climb to greater heights, hovering over ledges and crossing gaps. It can also travel over the deadly quicksand biome.

Another interesting mode of transport is the Hovertank. Acting similar to the hovercar, this one has specific battle functions. Equipped with long-range weapons that can blast enemies from afar. The Hovertank will take some getting used to as it’s not the most stable of vehicles, but once you get it down it will be most useful on the battlefield.

The fun doesn’t stop with hover abilities, players can also customise their cars with a number of weapons and parts to choose from. Add main and secondary weapons, engines, and suspensions to tweak your combat style. Through dungeon diving you can find more upgrades and unique machine parts.

Powerful foes will require you to have some powerful weapons at hand. Equip the special Option weapons to really put some power at your fingertips. The Neutron Cannon can send a blast of energy right at your enemy. You can also crowd control with the use of the Automatic Combat Drone to help out with multi-targets.

Theres also a variety of options when it comes to customising the style of your vehicle. Just head to the paint shop in Spino to give your ride a nice new coat of paint. Pre-orders will gain an exclusive Midnight Panther and Jungle Heart skin.
