Sea of Stars Demo Out on PC during Steam Next Fest
Sea of Stars finally gets a PC demo during the Steam Next Fest. Developers also confirm that the title is “feature complete”.
The highly anticipated Kickstarter success story classic RPG,Sea of Stars, has some exciting updates for fans eagerly awaiting its release. First off, a playable demo is now available on PC through the Steam Next Fest, running from June 19 to 26. While the demo showcases areas from the final game, it carefully avoids significant story spoilers, instead focusing on dungeon crawling, combat, and gameplay mechanics.
For those curious, this PC demo is the same one that was previously released on Nintendo Switch back in February, with minor updates included. After the Steam Next Fest, the demo will remain available on Steam for players to continue their adventure.
In addition to the demo news, Sabotage Studio has revealed a new Wheels Minigame. This optional tabletop game within Sea of Stars offers players a chance to take a break from adventuring and indulge in a different kind of gameplay.
The development team will be active on their Discord server to gather feedback and answer questions, especially in the dedicated #sos-demo-feedback channel. Players are encouraged to share their thoughts and engage with the team.
Although compatibility testing has been done, the team acknowledges that it’s challenging to cover every hardware configuration. Players encountering technical issues can provide relevant details to help the team fine-tune the game before its official launch.
The developers also confirmed on Twitter that the demo and the full game will be playable on the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, progress won’t carry over like inFinal Fantasy XVI, as the demo areas are not the beginning of the game.
Even further, June 6 marked a momentous milestone. It was a big moment for the Sea of Stars development team as they officially achieved the “Content Complete” status for the game. This major accomplishment means that the game is now fully playable from the title screen to the end credits. This encompasses all of the optional content, including the Wheels minigame and secret discoverable items. Every aspect of the game has undergone meticulous review, polishing, and balancing to ensure a satisfying experience for players.
With the Content Complete stage reached, the team now has two months to transition from the Beta phase to the Gold stage, where the game will be bug-free and ready for release. Following a successful approach used during the development of their previous title, The Messenger, Sabotage Studio has enlisted the expertise of QA professionals from Lionbridge. With 11 testers joining the team, the final stretch promises to be a busy and productive time for the development arm.
Localization efforts are also progressing steadily, with most of the game’s content localized in multiple languages. French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese versions of Sea of Stars are already completed, and the proofreading stage is set to begin soon. This dedication to localization ensures that players around the world will be able to fully immerse themselves in the game’s rich narrative and captivating world.
The journey leading up to the development of Sea of Stars has been a long one, dating back almost five years since the initial pitch within Sabotage Studio. The game’s Kickstarter campaign, which met its funding goal in a single day, further solidified the support and excitement from the community. The development team expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support, making this journey all the more incredible.
With its nostalgic charm and attention to detail, Sea of Stars promises to be a delightful journey for fans of classic RPGs. Sabotage Studio’s passion for the project shines through, all but guaranteeing a memorable gaming experience. With its enchanting pixel art, engaging gameplay systems, and attention to detail, the game aims to transport players back to the golden era of classic RPGs while offering a fresh and captivating adventure.
