Sea of Thieves is coming to Playstation5 on April 30th
The pirate game developed by Rare, ‘Sea of Thieves,’ will arrive on Sony’s Playstation 5 console on April 30th, with the exciting Crossplay feature between platforms, allowing PlayStation 5 players to join existing players on Xbox and PC.
This makes it the fourth game to no longer be exclusive to Microsoft platforms and join the Playstation universe, as mentioned by Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, in the Xbox Podcast.

The pioneers were ‘Grounded’ and ‘Pentiment,’ which became available on Nintendo Switch. Shortly after the Nintendo Direct, it was surprisingly announced that the successful rhythm-based action game ‘Hi-Fi Rush,’ developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda, will be available on March 18th for PlayStation 5.
Phil Spencer himself ensures that this decision is to “reach as many players as possible,” as part of a new strategy implemented by Microsoft Games where exclusive titles from their consoles will start to reach the competition.
“I believe that in the next five or 10 years, games exclusive to a single hardware will be an increasingly smaller part of the video game industry”
Now that Microsoft is publishing its games on other consoles, many speculate that Sony may consider doing the same. In response to this concern, Spencer stated, “When I look at a game like Helldivers 2 (which is a great game, and I congratulate the team that released it on PC and PlayStation), I’m not so sure who in the industry benefits from the fact that it’s not on Xbox. If you try to twist it, you could say that, in some way, it benefited someone somewhere.”
All that remains is to wait if Sea of Thieves will be a highly played title by the Sony community, and if the response is positive, it’s likely that more Xbox games will end up coming to PS5. Only time will tell if Phil Spencer’s strategy with the Xbox brand is successful or not, but for now, the major beneficiaries are PlayStation users. However, it is still not ruled out that PlayStation games may end up coming to the Microsoft platform, given the most recent statements from the Japanese company.
The arrival of ‘Sea of Thieves’ on PlayStation 5, all updates and added content up to now will be available on Sony’s console. So, Weigh Anchor and crowd that canvas Ahoy, Matey!
