South Park: The Fractured But Whole Preview – “Interactive TV”
Departing from the fantasy setting (imagination) ofSouth Park: The Stick of Truth, the cast moves into the trending “Superheroes” theme as its the cool new (not really) thing! InSouth Park: The Fractured but Whole, players delve into the tender, crime-ridden underbelly of South Park with Coon and Friends. This dedicated group of crime fighters was formed by Eric Cartman, whose superhero alter ego, The Coon, is half man, half raccoon. As The New Kid, players join Mysterion, Toolshed, Human Kite, Mosquito, Mint Berry Crunch and a group of others to battle the forces of evil while Coon strives to make his team some of the most beloved superheroes inhistory.
South Park: The Fractured but Wholehas a character creator where players can freely mold their South Park persona, be it an alien, a mutant, or some otherworldly being. South Park is well-known for social commentary andSouth Park: TFBWis no exception. Very early on in the game, at the character creation screen to be exact, you’re presented with a special difficulty slider. Shifting this special slider between ‘Easy’ and ‘Very Difficult’ changes the skin tone of your character. Although this setting doesn’t affect combat, it does affect how NPC’s interact with you, the amount of currency you acquire, the number of obstacles you face and more. There are other such things littered throughout the game.
The game plays much like a traditional old-school RPG. It has an overworld presented in a side-scrolling fashion, complete with intractable NPCs and buildings that you can enter. Combat is triggered by bumping into enemies that opens up a separate grid-based battle stage, with the fights being turn-based. Being on opposite sides, you take turns with your party members and enemies in attacking, unleashing a number of special abilities and so on. The party members you recruit can be selected from the TV shows’ colorful cast who you’ll encounter through your playthrough.
South Park: The Fractured but Wholeis a faithful rendition of the television series, from its iconic 2D visuals to its deliberate choppy animations, as well as to the inclusion of the program’s original voice-acting cast and memorable soundtrack. Fans of the show will immediately feel at home.
As a “whole”,South Park: The Fractured but Wholeis a cohesive game with interactivity as a bonus for fans of the television program, who should really go get this game. If you’re new, try it out and gain a new experience to liven things up, mmkay.South Park: The Fractured but Wholeis now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
