Space Marine 2 Gameplay Revealed in Explosive New Trailer
Space Marine 2 gets a full gameplay trailer that shows off its main character slaughtering dozens of Tyranids with the Emperor’s fury.
In the far future of the 41st millennium, there is only war. This is the creed that humanity lives by in the Warhammer 40,0000 universe. Everyone, everywhere, is locked in eternal conflict with heresy, xenos, and other abominations.
It is only through the light of the immortal God-Emperor of Mankind that humanity can thrive. And there are no better manifestations of the Emperor’s Will Made manifest than the Adeptus Astartes, or simply, the Space Marines.
We also finally get a confirmation from the trailer on the unlucky foes to our wrath: the Tyranid Swarm. Tyranids are an insectoid-like race that thrives on consuming all life in the universe. They are predators first and foremost and are extremely efficient at killing “lesser” beings.
Space Marine 2 follows again the footsteps of Lieutenant Titus from the first game. We can see tons of scenes of the Lieutenant alone, stomping and crushing Tyranids with righteous fury. The lone veteran can be seen squaring off against literally dozens of foes at a time, never faltering with his intense brutality.
Yet again does Space Marine 2 create the awe-inspiring feeling of being an Adeptus Astartes. You aren’t a mererejectof theImperial Guardlike in Darktide, nor are you a leader such as theRogue Trader.
It isn’t confirmed yet what planets Space Marine 2 will take place in. The previous game was set on an Imperial Forge World, an entire planet that has been devoted to the creation and maintenance of the Imperium’s war machines.
This time, we will take the fight to the Tyranids on multiple planets instead of just one. The Tyranid infestation seems to have a much larger scale than that of the Orks last time.
Space Marine 2 will feature some amazing third-person shooter combat that mixes bothranged and meleein equal measure. The game has the return of the usual and familiar Space Marine weaponry, such as the Power Hammer, Chainsword, Pulse Cannons, and Heavy Bolters.
We will also get to play around with Assault Jump Packs. This will allow us to fly into the air, only to come crashing down into our foes. Brutal melee combat is also a staple of the game, and it definitely shows in the brief footage that was given.
The Tyranids are legion incarnate. They are grouped into “swarms” of up to trillions of individual strains, each of them collectively contributing their thoughts to a singular hive mind. As such, they are the perfect weapon able to immediately bolster failing sides of whatever conflict they are engaged in.
Another aspect of the Tyranid is that they tend to overwhelm their foes with staggering numbers. Millions of them converge on targets, laying waste to anything they can get their claws on.
In order to adapt to problems and change, they absorb any useful traits from other biological prey and have their offspring gain these new abilities. It is quite a terrifying sight.
These creatures aren’t simply mindless, however. While not directly confirmed via the Space Marine 2 trailer footage, Tyranids tend to overtake entire worlds by sending in sleeper agents called “Genestealers”
Genestealers are parasites that infest unwilling creatures with a change to their very core DNA. Any offspring that the host might sire will have a psychic connection to the compromised parent as well as the greater Tyranid swarm.
This cycle continues for generations until a planet unknowingly is infiltrated by Genestealers and their offspring. Everyone from the lowliest serf to even a Lord of the planet can be a Genestealer, as they are “human” for all intents and purposes before an invasion.
As the swarm nears, these corrupted agents do their work with various subterfuge, disrupting anything that might give the human populace of the planet an advantage.
Available as well for pre-order is a Physical Collector’s Edition for all the platforms, PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The $249.99 pack will come with the bust of Lieutenant Titus decimating a Tyranid. Additionally, fans will get a hardcover book, a Steelbook case, as well as the Macragge’s Chosen DLC (though no word on what this could be just yet).
