Star Wars Outlaws Gives More Insight on Map Size
Star Wars Outlaws, the first open-world game in this beloved franchise, will have five planets that we can freely explore. But, how large will each one be?Ubisoftclarifies this and has provided more hints by comparing each planet to areas inAssassin’s Creed.
Star Wars Outlaws, which will arrive on August 30th. It is the first open-world action game forStar Wars, created by experts in the genre, Ubisoft, and as we mentioned in our impressions last month, it looks very promising.
Just over a month before its launch, we are learning new details about the game, such as the size of the five planets we can explore.
The creators have confirmed that it will take about four or five minutes to cross from end to end aboard a speeder, those land vehicles that use anti-gravity technology to float and move at ground level at high speeds, which we will use to move as quickly as possible through the open world.
The game’s creative director, Julian Gerighty, from the Swedish Massive Entertainment, explained that the planets in the game—Tatooine, a moon of Toshara, Akiva, Kijimi, and Cantonica—will be approximately the size of two or three zones from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and confirmed that “Toshara is very similar in size to Akiva and Tatooine; I think Tatooine might be a bit larger.”
When asked how long it would take the protagonist Kay Vess to travel from one end of Toshara to the other driving a speeder, Gerighty said between four and five minutes, which would also be the case for Akiva and Tatooine, as they are approximately the same size. “Four or five minutes non-stop, which doesn’t seem like much, but once you commit, it’s quite a large amount, and you’re always going to be distracted.” It is not clear whether the remaining two planets, Kijimi and Cantonica, are larger or smaller than these three planets.
“We don’t want things to be big just for the sake of being big. We need it to be contained, always fun, always proposing different activities. So, traversing the whole set had to feel like a journey, a commitment when you get on your speeder and want to go from one end to the other.”
