Bethesda’s latest RPG Starfield has now gained 12 million players since its launch just three months ago.
At this year’s CCXP, an entertainment convention in Brazil, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer disclosed a significant figure. In an interview at the event, Spencer remarked, “Starfield has been incredible.” He added, “A unique aspect of my role is the opportunity to play games during the early stages of their development. In fact, around this time last year, I was playing Starfield. The fact that I found myself unable to stop playing was a clear sign to me that we were on the cusp of something extraordinary with this game.”
The NASA-punk styled open world RPG has now hit 12 million players since its launch and is also now Bethesda’s top 10 most-played games. It’s not too long ago since the gamesurpassed 11 million players. Spencer thanked fans for the support and celebrated the hit game. Starfield took off on PC and Xbox Series X|S in September of this year. It also became a part of Game Pass. Not only hitting a milestone for the number of players but also becoming Bethesda’s biggest launch in history.
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the game as it received negative reviews on Steam which Bethesda has busily been responding to. However Spencer has announced more content is coming to Starfield, with plan to have a similar experience to Skyrim’s 12-year record where players will be playing the game a decade after its launch.
Spencer also went on to comment about the expansion for Starfield called Shattered Space which is currently in the works. There was no update on the expansion but doubles down that the update is underway. Mod tools are heading to the game officially where players can create and add their own content to the game which is similar to Skyrim.
In case you missed, Shattered Space wasrevealed with the premium editions of Starfield. Included in both the digital and physical editions as well as the collector’s edition. Described as a story expansion which will be released after the launch of the game. No news on exactly when this expansion will drop or further details about the content of the DLC.
As for what the expansion could cover, it could dive deeper into factions that have yet to have their history fully explored in the main story such asHouse of Va’ruun. Other theories online include discovering Earth’s devastation and the invention of theGrav Drive. Another option would be to add newNew Game Plusoptions entering TheUnitywhich could be caused by the chaos of the universe and rip in space. One addition I feel they should add is vehicles to explore planets.
