Steam Winter Sale 2023 - Best RPGs, Soulslikes, and More!

Dec. 22, 2023

There are too many titles to cover, so here are some games that we feel would be worth your time and attention.

When it comes to the gameplay, Blasphemous 2 retains its flare from its predecessor. Players are tasked to choose their weapon, defeat hostile creatures, explore every room they can, and finally, upgrade their equipment. But digging deeper into the loot you gain, there are some good changes. For instance, your starting weapon now has 3 archetypes to choose from, allowing you to swap to a different playstyle each time. This lets you come up with various combos to make encounters more fulfilling.

If you have enjoyed the first game or if you are new to the Blasphemous universe, then Blasphemous 2 should be a good starter Metroidvania for you! Check out ourBlasphemous 2 reviewfor more.

The game is an excellent turn-based tactical RPG based on the D&D 5e ruleset. It is further supported by an extremelymemorable cast, challenging and creativecombatscenarios, flexiblecharacter builds, amazing dialogue, a wonderful story, and much, much more. Every element of the game is pure excellence and is even greater than the sum of its parts.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is something so special that became a cultural phenomenon, attracting droves and droves of people into its orbit. Despite the single-player game being a few months old already, it is still able to maintain a consistent 150,000 concurrent player count on Steam alone.

FromSoftware’s magnum opus (so far) needs no introduction, especially for followers of the Fextralife wiki network. Elden Ring is a grand adventure that delivers an even grander scale than few games ever wish to deliver. The game’s map is huge but at the same time not daunting for a newcomer. It features tons of nooks and crannies that encourage players to satisfy their curiosity in exploration, not because of a map marker telling them to go there, but because they want to.

With the newShadow of the Erdtree DLClooming right ahead, now is as good a time as any to dive into the massive world of The Lands Between.

Next isDarkest Dungeon IIfrom developer Red Hook Studios. If you have missed Wayne June’s classic narration from the first game, you may want to jump into this action-packed sequel. The base game by itself is priced at USD 29.99 at a 25% discount. However, if you’re willing to spend $5 more, the Darkest Dungeon II: The Oblivion Edition is a much better deal. This already includes the newly releasedThe Binding Blade DLCand soundtrack.

As a recap, The Binding Blade DLC features balance changes as well as a new mini-boss called The Warlord and more importantly, 2 new heroes. They are Sahar the Duelist who specializes in a hybrid play style, combining the best of offensive and defensive moves, together with Reynauld the Crusader. Reynauld makes a dashing return from Darkest Dungeon I with his stellar support capabilities and flexible movement abilities.

Now compared to Darkest Dungeon I, Darkest Dungeon II takes on a more hands-on approach in the sense that there is less preparation taken on dungeon runs. Every decision needs to be heavily considered, otherwise, players will run into the risk of dying quickly. This makes the roguelike more exciting because you lack control. You end up losing any of the abilities and trinkets you had in your previous run if you are not careful at making the right decisions. The sequel leans toward quick reaction times rather than preparing for dangerous scenarios. After all, “overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.”

If you enjoy getting challenged at every turn, then Darkest Dungeon II is the perfect roguelike to get into this holiday season! Go visit ourPreviewof the game back in its Early Access period.

What makes Diablo IV better is the many avenues of character progression, and therefore customization that players can do. There is simply no shortage of build diversity that you can come up with, given the changes Blizzard is doing to further improve the game. Additionally, the current season, which you can participate in for free, is theSeason of the Blood. The Season of the Blood allows you to gain new vampiric powers to customize your characters better.

Cyberpunk 2077has had its highs and lows and let us tell you that with the arrival of the Phantom Liberty Expansion, the dystopian and futuristic RPG has been riding high! Valued at a discount of 43% off with this expansion and the base game, players can expect a highly polished title that will take them across Night City.

Alongside this release isUpdate 2.0, which revamped the game’s skills, cyberware system (which logically limits the amount of tech you can implant), and vehicle combat, to name a few. What makes these changes more relevant now is that progression has taken a turn for the better, allowing you to see and feel the exponential increase in the strength of your character.

Speaking ofPhantom Liberty, this expansion includes a new storyline with impeccable writing and character development as well as exciting combat encounters. The great thing about this is that you will not need to have completed the base game to play the DLC. Rather, it is a separate section of the game.

If you have wanted to try Cyberpunk 2077 for a while, now is the best time to get it given how polished the RPG is! Also, see ourPhantom Liberty Reviewfor our thoughts on the DLC.

Fallout 4 is the latest single-player version of the franchise and it continues to explore a lot of interesting themes centered around survival and the emergence of dangerous tech. There are many factions and characters to interact with as well as locations to go to as you make your way from Vault 111.

Unlike its predecessors, Fallout 4 features a much more improvedgunplay systembecause of themodsthat you can attach to your weapons. But it is not only applicable to this as you can make modifications to yourarmortoo! Spending several hours hunting for components and crafting just never gets old. Additionally, there is the new Settlement System, which lets you design your very own base of operations using the materials you have hoarded. It is very difficult not to hoard these in any of the other Fallout games anyway so being able to utilize them now is a good direction taken in Fallout 4.
