Just got another trophy… it was DIFFICULT, and includes a mechanic that I didn’t even know existed during my first playthrough (jumping on the Sentinel’s backs).I will include a video with a very mild post-game spoiler:
Get Off My Back!
I found a good place to try to get this one was early in the game, while Trico’s tail is stuck in the gate. I drew all of the Sentinel in the hall to Trico where he took them out, then without releasing Trico I went to the balcony with a lone Sentinel on it. This is a fairly open space where you and one Sentinel are all alone, and you get a chance to jump on his back before he notices you.
It took me many, many attempts to do this. I’d have to say I was trying for over an hour. Basically you have to run in a circle and jump on the Sentinels back when he reaches out to grab you, but that’s easier said than done. You also have time to jump on him when he’s on his knees after you escape his grasp.
If you knock him over while climbing his back, he seems invulnerable to being jumped on again during his recovery animation. However, if you roll into him near the end of the animation, he will stumble and you’ll get a good shot at jumping on him – just make sure to do this from behind. This technique is demonstrated in my video.
While on the Sentinel’s back, it is important to keep balance – if he leans too far in one direction, he will fall over. If he is standing upright for too long, he will simply shake you off. It seemed to me that repeatedly tapping in a direction, rather than holding that direction, helped me not to overshoot and knock him over. I finally got the trophy after repeating a single pattern: push him forward, pull him to the right, then back to the center and repeat. It would only take me one tap to get him to the right, but many to pull him to center. It’s important to switch direction immediately when you see him shift.
I don’t know if the debris to my right helped to keep him from falling over. The trophy is signaled by the narrator’a voiceover.
The video also demonstrates how to pull off a Sentinel’s head, which is necessary for another trophy.

Congrats, mittens, but I’m not going to read your spoiler.
I played several more hours on Saturday, after upgrading my Pro. What a complete hassle that was. I previously upgraded my PS3 slim and my regular PS4 and they were easy peasey but the Pro was a small nightmare. I had to stop, cuss, and go out to get a different screwdriver.
Anyway, after using the Lan cable method of transferring data, I picked up where I left off. Reports that the game runs better on the Pro seem true. Not just the obvious sharper graphics but frame rate. I mentioned before that I got motion sickness during my first session. Did not recur when I switched to the Pro.
Playing a puzzle game is exhausting for me. I was stuck in that round room for a long time. Reminded me of an old episode of Twilight Zone. I left off after a spectacular fall so will resume there maybe tonight.
I finished this game on Friday and absolutely loved it. Another masterpiece from Fumito Ueda. That Trico sure is adorable!
Most of the trophies are self-explanatory, but I’ll go through a few of them:
Balancing Act:
You have to place the first barrel on the ground so that it’s standing upright. I don’t know if there’s a reliable way to do this, but I got one to stand up after trying many times. The second barrel must be placed on top of the first, which is harder to knock over than it would seem. It took me less tries to place the second barrel. Once the second barrel is placed you can pick them both up with circle, then slowly walk ten meters.
Thundering Wonder:
You HAVE to kill a good number of enemies with Trico’s lightning throughout the game, so you don’t have to take out many of your own volition to get this trophy during your first playthrough.
Practice Makes Perfect:
I don’t have this trophy yet, but it seems Trico will only catch barrels if you throw them from above him while his head is raised up to your level.
Keep on Running:
I spammed the roll button (square) and generally tried to stay to his sides or behind him. If you jump and climb up his tail, resting on his rear, he seems to have a hard time shaking or bucking you off.
Ahaha was the lunch good at least lol
I watched a player on PS Live who wasn’t as far along as me, thinking I might learn if I missed something or there was a better way. He was worse than me, got stuck all the time, even with suggestions from his viewers, and he finally was so stuck he just started talking about his lunch. So at least I don’t suck that much.
I have a 3 day weekend coming up, so hopefully I’ll make real progress.
Fex, I finally got a trophy so I’ll tell you my story:The Call of Nature is you see Trico doing number 2. I don’t know if he needs to go after eating a certain # of barrels (for me it was about 10 but I missed about 5) or if it’s tied to a location or other event. For me it was after the tutorial on giving commands to Trico. He starts acting funny, ignoring commands and actually goes partly back to a previous area.
This game is crazy hard for me. I got stuck a couple more times and couldn’t get Trico to go where I needed. Spent half an hour coaxing him to give me a lift to a certain spot. Now I’m stuck again, in a part that requires split second timing, at which I suck and is why I can’t play any platformers. I’m hoping there’s a trick to it I haven’t discovered. In Souls, nothing is ever “cheap” difficulty for me because I know there are different ways around problems. But at this point I think Ueda-sensei made this too hard.
Yeah, I’m frustrated. I found one workaround. When I fail repeatedly, I just use restart from last checkpoint instead of dying and performing the irritating QTE to reset.
Oh, I forgot to add that my CE arrived today. They did a great job. The steelcase, the little art book, but most of all the Trico statue is excellent. I need to upgrade my Pro to 2 TB this weekend and do a copy of my PS4 content to it. A gig of content will take some time, even using a lan cable. After that I’ll play TLG on the Pro for comparison.
Fex the only trophy tip I have is this
The trophy about barrels. There are barrels scattered about, some hard to see but they glow. You feed Trico with them. Be careful if you throw them because I lost 3 that way, throwing where he couldn’t get them.
Fex, embarrassingly I haven’t gotten a single trophy yet and I’m not sure I ever will. It might be like TLoU, where I had like 5% after beating the game. Trophies aren’t tied to events like finishing an area. Even beating the game trophies are conditional on meeting a ridiculous timer. So I’m playing for love I guess.
Now if you want to know about Oceanhorn or Tales of Zesteria trophies, I’m your gal.
I need some help with tips for trophies as you guys get them. Remember you can record video from your ps4 too I can add it to the guide
I won’t be borrowing this from my friend now.He actually bought me a copy as an early holidays gift. I just need to get time to devote to it, since this is not a play on and off type game.
Watched him play for about 20 minutes. It looks amazing. He estimated that he was about halfway but he’s playing blind with no guides to help him. So who knows. I had to leave. I felt that I already saw too much.
This! Can’t believe it’s actually out!
I have a bunch of games to buy on my list but I’m thinking this is the priority
Sorry to hear about the motion sickness elves! The game is <3 <3 <3
Please let me know if you have any trophy tips for me to add
I started playing when it unlocked at 9 for CA. Just forced myself to quit about 20 minutes ago, so about 4 hours straight. It’s a puzzle game and I don’t think I’m smart enough because I was really stuck at one point. Of course I won’t spoil it except to give advice I wish someone gave me: pay attention to the opening control tutorial. Most are simple but one is a long QTE and I’ve already needed it a couple times. I’m trying to play blind, not even reading reviews, so it will take me an unreasonable amount of time to finish, no doubt.
For some reason I’m getting a bit of motion sickness playing this, which is why I had to stop for tonight.
I can’t believe it’s finally happening.
I’m not buying it. Have to wait until my friend beats it and loans me the disc because I’m currently saving all I can save.
But wow. What a wait. Hope it’s worth it.
