The Last of US Part 2: Reveal Info Recap
The Last of Us was one of the first games wereviewed officially as Fextralife, and is one of my favorite games on the PS4. Although enjoying overwhelmingly positive press reception, itdisappointed some userswho found it was not the life-changing experience they had been led to believe it was.
I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.
It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.
At least 5 years have passed since the events of the previous game, and we are presented with a firefly symbol before proceeding into an abandoned residence, where several seemingly uninfected dead listen to Ellie’s rendition of “The Valley”. Her injured, tattooed hand is shaking, leaving for interpretation whether this is a result of the fungus infection or the adrenaline rush from her possibly murdering the people in the adjacent rooms. We see a man entering the house, holding a revolver and slowly walking towards Ellie. He rests on the doorframe and asks, revealed to be Joel only by his voice “What are you doing”, and “Are you really going to go through with this”. Her reply is a vicious look and “I’m gonna find and I’m gonna kill every last one of them”.
You can watch the trailer and enjoy the eerie lyrics that foreshadow the tone of the game
I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil because I’m blind to it all.My mind and my gun they comfort me, I know I’ll kill my enemies when they come.
Current speculations about the game’s setting and twist. They include the possiblity that Joel was killed by the Fireflies after the events of the first game, and thus Ellie is now on a revenge rampage and seeing Joel only in her imagination. Another theory is that Ellie is still susceptible to the virus that is now mutating and slowly taking her sanity away, and we are thus witnessing the infected’s point of view – an imaginary narrative to justify the violent fits they succumb to.

I loved this game. Elvesrules makes some good points about how life changing or not it is. But for me it was a fantastic experience and I platinumed it twice, once on PS3 and once on ps4.
I love naughty dogs production values, I find their storytelling really compelling and apt for video games, and the gameplay is always fun. I’m excited for this game but a bit bummed the fan theories sound quite accurate and I may have spoiled myself out of the games twist.
I did the same with game of thrones by accidentally putting together the prince that was promised twist.
Im already hyped for it and hope for another grounded modeAlso wondering what the story will bring with joel/elli continuing @__@ !?
Oh man I can not wait to see what they have in store for us, I am hoping to keep my hype train leading up to the release day “Spoiler Free”. I also realize that there won’t be to many spoilers or anything that might leak the story for quite some time,.
This was to be expected from Naughty Dog, because of their resent release “Uncharted 4”. After the release of Uncharted fan’s were on their toe’s about “What’s Naughty Dogs next game/project.
I stopped at the section on speculation. I need to start my spoiler avoidance now.
Not the life-changing experience…if any gamer believes a video game could be a life-changing experience, he needs to seriously examine his priorities. Is TLoU the greatest game ever. In some ways. But everything in the world is subjective. I played TLoU from night one, on PS3. For me, it was a profoundly affecting gaming experience. But, I know some people said it wasn’t so great. I bet 90% of the naysayers were people who didn’t own a PS3 so they couldn’t play it, so they all went on Reddit to create the usual Reddit hate echo chamber.
“Controls/gameplay are bad”. I’ve played 4 Naughty Dog games and they all have 3rd person, cover-based shooting. Not being an FPS is at the top of the complaints. I hate shooters and only make an exception for ND games so I don’t care about FPS. The AI was wonky. This was a valid criticism. Here I am painstakingly trying to stealth my way, but Ellie and other NPCs can walk in front of the enemy and not be detected. A small matter, but it hurt immersion.
Was the gameplay enjoyable. Hell, no. This game was a painful, gut-wrenching self-torture experience. No fun at all. I think the only times I cracked a smile were the giraffe scene and, in the hospital, when someone said “Who is this guy?!” about Joel, an homage to the movie Butch Cassidy.
TLoU is a masterpiece of storytelling. No other game I’ve ever played even approaches it. Most movies don’t measure up to it. The acting is the best in any game, but of course the writing is at the heart of that. Troy Baker gives an Oscar-worthy performance. It’s a crime that he isn’t an A-list movie star. How can 1 guy play Joel, Sam Drake from U4 and 15 year old Kanji from Persona 4G, with equal believability? Great, great actor.
So, greatest game ever? Writing and acting, yes. Enjoyment playing? No. That would be Zelda: Ocarina and Demon’s Souls, for me.
