The Signal is an Open-World Space Survival Game Announced
The Signal, a new open-world survival crafting game has been announced by developer and publisher Goose Byte. It will undergo less than a year’s worth of Early Access period via Steam with the launch for consoles and PC following thereafter.
The Signal follows 3 essential tenets, specifically Exploration, Invention, and Survival. The goal is to fully immerse players into uncharted territories brimming with mystery and scenic landscapes that will leave behind a satisfying feeling of wonder. You can expect to come across multiple biomes filled with flora and fauna. The longer you explore the world, the more things you will discover, much of which are those you won’t expect.
This open-world survival game also features a Recipe Sharing System and a Sustainability theme that makes it different from other titles of the same genre. But not much has been elaborated about either of these. Additionally, The Signal can be played with at most 15 more players so you won’t be alone for the ride.
The Signal’s premise revolves around discovering the unknown, years after humanity has left Earth. As one of the few possibly inhabitable places across the galaxy, you have come to investigate whether or not this alien planet can be your next home. The beauty that comes with exploration is the vast open spaces available in the game. These include “tranquil glades, peaceful meadows, and rolling hills, to damp muskegs, wind-sheared canyons, molten lava fields, and frigid tundras.” So you won’t run out of things to look forward to.
The flora, fauna, and even every item are subject to being scanned. Doing so will allow you to learn what something is and what it does. Scanning will also help you understand mysterious relics in the hopes of piecing together the planet’s rich and intriguing history.
When it comes to investing, you will have the Cortex OS by your side, a device that will let you craft blueprints for the equipment, vehicles, and structures you intend to build. The good aspect about these designs is that they can be shared with your fellow friends for improvement, allowing everyone to unleash their creativity. However, since resources are limited, you will all have to determine the most essential items to craft in order to help tackle problems.
Last but not least is the survival component of The Signal. As players get lost in wonder on the vast alien planet, they begin to discern whether or not this place could become a true home of humanity. Not only will you encounter dangerous terrain and weather, making resource-gathering and exploration a bit more challenging, but you will also use all of the tools at your disposal to understand the area’s ecosystem and the relics that have been left behind.
There are so many secrets for you and your crew to uncover. Will these items point you to new pieces of technology? Or will they be detrimental to your survival? Will the cryptic patterns you discover along the way point you in the right direction or will serve as humanity’s downfall? These are just some of the burning questions we are eager to learn more about as we get closer to the Early Access version of the game.
New Montreal developer Goose Byte has decided to enter an Early Access phase for The Signal to gather as much player feedback as they can to considerably improve their game. Although they have mentioned that the timeline will be less than a year, there is a possibility to lengthen this based on the gravity of the feedback they gather from the community. Currently, the survival game is in the internal Alpha stage as they continue to implement several biomes.
When it comes to pricing, this may increase on the release date, which is again dependent on the amount of content they are going to add during Early Access. There is no planned release date yet as to when players will be able to experience the world of The Signal.
The Signal announcement trailer gave us a glimpse of what to expect – seemingly gorgeous biomes inhabited by different species. The visuals are good depictions of what is to come (probably because it is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 like the upcomingBlack Myth Wukongor theFourth Witcher Game), and they somewhat remind us of No Man’s Sky. But apart from this, no details have been shared about how combat plays out, the number of skills we can choose from as we progress, and if we will be able to meet NPCs along the way or if we are in charge of our own story entirely.
It isn’t also clear how the Singleplayer Mode will play out, that is, what will the hook be should you decide to go on this adventure alone? Will it be as equally engaging? Well, we certainly can’t wait to learn more about The Signal in the coming months so we will provide updates once they become available!
