The Technomancer: A Look at Companions
During E3 last year, we brought you someearly looksatThe Technomancer, a sci-fi RPG developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive. We were intrigued by its potential and put it on our most wanted list of games to watch. The past year has been relatively quiet on the information front but we do know now that the game will be released on June 28 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Today on theirofficial Facebook page, they had some more information to share on theCompanionsmechanic of the game, which should make for a dynamic storytelling experience, similar toFallout 4or theMass Effectgames.
You may select up to 2 companions at any given time and they each have their ownCombatstyle. They have their own inventory and you may give them newWeaponsandArmorwhich you can also improve viaCrafting. Companions level up as you take them out with you, which means any favorites you have will always be able to progress as you do, making for deep knowledge of how their abilities combine with yours.
Companions can also make use of specialTalents, such as crafting, scientific knowledge, or lockpicking. As a result, picking one companion over another has a significant impact on your gameplay experience and you can tailor your companion choices to match your preferred playstyle method.
Companions will ask for help and favors which will trigger a special series ofMissionsthat let you learn more about their backgrounds, similar to the loyalty missions in Mass Effect. This will improve your relationships with them. Though, if your decisions consistently upset a member of your group, they may leave you in the Martian dust. However, raising your reputation with them will lead toRomanceoptions. These types of options have the potential to create some interesting and divergent gameplay experiences, ensuring that no 2 playthroughs will be alike.
Each Companion has different reasons for joining up with you and some have an existing history with the main character, opening up deeper avenues for exploration of the game’s lore and backstory.

With the game only a month out at this point, we are sure to be hearing more details about what to expect during E3 and we will bring you updates and pre-release info as soon we hear it. If you’re looking at a long summer barren of RPG goodness, this may be the game to get you through!

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
I’ve enjoyed Spiders’ work. I think they’ve improved with each release. I’ve promised myself this game when I get out of the hospital – it gives me something to look forward to!
Looking forward to this
We should be getting a better look at E3, hopefully to shed some light on the deeper mechanics.
Hyped, but not taking a leap of faith. I’ll wait for the reviews.
