The Witcher 4 Has Entered Full-Scale Production

CD Projekt Redhas revealed that the new installment ofThe Witcherseries has concluded its conceptual phase and is now moving into development.

It’s hard to believe that two years have passed sinceThe Witcher 4, also known by its codenameProject Polaris, was first announced. The game is set for release onPS5, Xbox Series, and PC.

Gradually, more details about this installment have surfaced. It will kick off a new trilogy following Geralt of Rivia’s adventures and introduce fresh protagonists.

Today, coinciding with the inclusion of the first twoWitchergames in GOG’s preservation program, the team behindThe Witcher 4shared exciting news: the game has entered full-scale development.

According to Sebastian Kalemba, director ofThe Witcher 4,the game has transitioned to the production phase, marking a significant milestone for the project.

I’m thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase! With new challenges just around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience. Full-scale production indicates that the game has moved beyond the design and planning stages. The focus now shifts to developing levels, mechanics, graphics, narrative, and motion capture, among other elements.

DescribingPolarisas “the next saga ofThe Witcher” reinforces the idea that the protagonist will not be Geralt of Rivia. This aligns with hints from Doug Cockle, Geralt’s voice actor, who suggested his return to theWitcheruniverse but confirmed that his character won’t be the central figure in the new installment.

The teaser forThe Witcher 4features a medallion representing a previously unknown group of Witchers: the School of the Lynx. This has led to speculation that Ciri could be the protagonist, especially since the “true ending” ofThe Witcher 3shows her becoming a Witcher.

The School of the Lynx’s philosophy and combat style seem to fit Ciri perfectly.

Currently,PolarishasCD Projekt Red’slargest development team, surpassing the group working onProject Orion, the sequel toCyberpunk 2077.

Additionally, recent reports suggest thatThe Witcher 4has also started casting and possibly filming scenes for the game.

These updates onThe Witcher 4come alongside other positive news for CD Projekt, as the company accelerates production ofCyberpunk 2077′s sequel with new hires at its U.S.-based studio.
