Torchlight: Infinite features 5 basic classes with their own attributes, skills, and talents. There are several attributes to take note of including Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. Strength grants additional Life or HP and melee damage while Dexterity provides attack and cast speed boosts as well as better evasion. Lastly, Intelligence gives extra Mana and Energy Shield, which is your first line of defense. Rather than manually allocating points into them, you equip gear and invest in talent nodes to do so.
Meanwhile, some skills are shared across multiple classes so it will be up to you to decide the route to take. For instance, Ice Bond is a Cold Spell that can be cast by Spacetime Illusion Youga or Frostfire Gemma to freeze enemies and deal decent Spell Damage. Active and Passive Skills can be freely swapped and linked to other Support and Trigger Skills. You will only have to redistribute Energy for the latter to take effect.
Talents, on the other hand, are passives with multiple panels. While you are starting, it is best to choose the main Talent Tree for your class to improve synergy. Unlike skills, you need to make use of Oblivion Points to reallocate the talents you ought to experiment with for your build before hitting Level 80.
ThisARPG’sdifferent playstyles include Berserker Rehan, Divineshot Carino, Frostfire Gemma, Spacetime Illusion Youga, and Commander Moto. We will go through each of them in terms of their unique specializations and what you can expect.
Berserker Rehan is a powerful and beginner-friendly hero to play because of how straightforward he is to pilot. This class is your typical Berserker who excels in hammering down enemies with ease in the melee range using swords, axes, and you guessed it, hammers! He accumulates a special resource known as Rage upon inflicting melee damage and taking damage. Once the maximum level is reached, Rehan enters Berserk, allowing him to deal massive burst damage to one-hit regular enemies.
For Berserker Rehan’s core attribute, you will want to invest in Strength the most to clear mobs faster due to your amplified melee damage. What’s more, is that your max Life also increases for better survivability. Next, you should consider increasing Dexterity in order to boost your attack speed and evasion. Both stats are going to be very useful against bosses given that you do not move as fast compared to the other heroes.
What’s really cool about this class is his high max Life so he can act as a tank in groups. But regardless of whether or not you intend to deal great burst damage or support your teammates, one good Active Skill to equip is Resurrection Warcry, which lowers the damage you take while regaining Life over time. Leap Attack is another decent ability because it lets you jump on top of mobs from a distance. Alternatively, you can use this to leap away from the crowd should you need breathing room from strong foes to restore HP.
In terms of Talents, you can go for God of Might or God of War. God of Might is focused on boosting Strength and amplifying fire damage and resistance. With this talent tree, you can also inflict Ignite to deal damage over time. Conversely, God of War is preferable if you wish to concentrate on enhancing physical damage as well as improving your chances of evading attacks.
If you wish to easily engage and destroy enemies at point-blank range while only consuming a small amount of Mana and absorbing tons of damage effectively, then the Berserker is the perfect class for you!
Next is Divineshot Carino, who, unlike the Berserker, deals impeccable damage from a distance thanks to his guns and bows. With Ranger of Glory as his Hero Trait, he is able to move faster upon reloading to evade incoming attacks effectively. Divineshot also has a chance to generate Special Ammo. What’s unique about this is that once you fire a weapon, the Support Skill associated with that same Special Ammo will be automatically activated. As such, you will reap additional benefits.
Divineshot Carino’s main attribute is Dexterity, granting him improved attack speed to shoot enemies or pelt them with arrows as well as amazing mobility to evade enemy hits. Unfortunately, this is insufficient to raise his defenses. As such, you will also need to invest in Strength to raise Life. Given this attribute distribution, you can either go for Goddess of Hunting or God of War Talent Trees.
Goddess of Hunting specializes in allocating points into Dexterity while enhancing your overall agility further. If you are planning to equip skills that deal Lightning Damage then you may want to consider selecting this tree since there are dedicated talents to improving this damage type. Alternatively, since you are going to put some points into Strength anyway, you can choose God of War.
The key difference between this one and Goddess of Hunting is that God of War features nodes to amplify Physical, Bleed, and Critical Strike Damage as opposed to improved movement speed. You can then specialize in increasing Critical Damage by selecting the Ranger Sub Talent Tree.
Among Divineshot Carino’s Active Skills, the decent ones to equip are Ice Shot and Rain of Arrows. Ice Shot is a potent ability that lets you deal considerable weapon damage. It also grants a high chance to freeze enemies, which can mean life or death in critical situations against strong enemies. Meanwhile, Rain of Arrows is an AoE skill that launches multiple projectiles to strike them from the top. Wherever you are in terms of progress, it is essential to link the Mark Support Skill. When a target is marked, they automatically receive extra damage, making this ability useful in boss fights.
If you prefer ranged combat where you deal critical damage and inflict status effects while being quick on your feet, then Divineshot is the right class for you.
Another good beginner-friendly class to try in Torchlight: Infinite is Frostfire Gemma due to the sheer power of her Fire and Cold Spells. These allow her to annihilate enemies from a distance while controlling the battlefield to incapacitate any survivors. Quite similar to Berserker Rehan, Frostfire Gemma saves a certain resource called Fusion Energy every time Fire or Cold Skills are activated. Once it reaches the maximum value, she enters FrostFire Rampage to deal great Fire and Cold Damage.
For this class’s core attribute, you should focus on investing in Intelligence to enhance your Mana reserves and improve max Energy Shield. You are going to need the shield since your Life is low by default, making you a glass canon. Due to the “Sealed Mana” mechanic, which is specific for Passive and some Support Skills, it is essential to keep raising this resource so you can constantly spam spells with little to no downtime. Additionally, remember to enhance Dexterity to speed up your cast time.
For Active Skills, the good ones to equip are Frigid Transmission and Fire Burst. Frigid Transmission lets you blitz from one point to the next, letting you evade highly concentrated areas. It also leaves an ice trail, which slows down nearby enemies, and deals Cold Damage. On the other hand, Fire Burst allows you to inflict additional Fire Damage against targets located at the center of an encounter. You should also consider equipping the Efficient Cast Support Skill to consume less Mana while improving your cast speed.
In terms of Talents, I recommend choosing Goddess of Knowledge to further raise Intelligence and boost Cold Damage. You can then pick Magister to improve your overall Spell Damage and Energy Shield to make yourself highly resilient.
If you want to play a character that has tons of utility with the ability to ignite, freeze, and slow targets all at the same time, then the Frostfire should be right up your alley!
The fourth hero in the game is known as Spacetime Illusion Youga who is also a Mage except that he blends magic with technology to conjure Twisted Spacetime. What happens here is you save time and space energy upon consuming Mana. You then create a warped space-time aura around you to enhance the party’s speed in terms of movement, attack, and cast. However, They will need to stand within the bounds of the aura to gain these buffs. Additionally, your spell damage is considerably increased.
Furthermore, you summon a Spacetime Illusion to fight alongside you, making Youga an asset and must-have hero in your party. But remember that the illusion will only cast the spell, which is assigned to your mouse’s right button.
Similar to Frostfire Gemma, his main attribute is Intelligence to generate a ton of Mana. You should also invest a couple of points into Dexterity for improved cast time and evasion. Therefore, the best Talent Tree for this class is also the Goddess of Knowledge because of its focus on maximizing Spell and Critical Damage. You should then pick the Arcanist Sub Talent Tree to amplify the Cold Damage of Frost Spells and improve your max Mana.
When it comes to Spacetime Illusion Youga’s Active Skills, you will want to stick with Ice Lances, which you can then pair with Frost Pool later on to deal additional damage. This is a projectile spell, meaning it can be cast from afar. Next is Black Hole to knock foes back while dealing damage over time. It is a potent skill to use in all fights to impose a disadvantage on them. Note that compared to Frostfire, Spacetime Illusion’s overall damage won’t be as powerful.
If you want to play as a hybrid DPS with an effective group buff to support your allies while utilizing crowd-control techniques, then Spacetime Illusion is the best option out there.
Last but not least is Commander Moto who summons minions to fight in his wake and to take the majority of damage. Due to his leadership, he can cast Overload for his comrades to boost their attack and cast speed while increasing the chances of doubling the damage they deal. What’s more is that this buff increases the duration of conjured creatures, which is a problem in the early game. Thanks to Order Calling, you can instruct your summons to attack specific enemies by hitting them with other skills.
One sure way to raise your cast speed is to choose the Orders Major Talent from the God of Machine Talent Tree, allowing you to thrive, especially in clutch moments. Another reason why this tree is beneficial for Moto is it will enhance his core attributes, which are Strength and Intelligence. Reaching 50 Strength and Intelligence will similarly amplify the damage and Critical Strike Damage of all of his minions to make them run wild in combat. You should then choose the Machinist Sub Tree to enhance their capabilities further.
In terms of Active Skills, the best ones to take are Summon Machine Guard, Summon Spider Tank, and Machine Army. Machine Guards and Spider Tanks deal melee and ranged damage, respectively, allowing these respective minions to dominate the battlefield. Right after conjuring them, you will need to use Machine Army to considerably enhance their overall attack, cast, and movement speed.
If you wish to rely on strong and capable machines to deal massive damage efficiently while protecting you from harm, then the Commander Class is your best bet.
