Uncharted 4 Has a New Release Date

Uncharted 4 Has a New Release Date

This is our largest Uncharted game to date, and the team has been working incredibly hard to meet the challenge of closing out the game’s development in a timely manner. However, as we approached our final deadlines and started wrapping up the game’s levels, we realized that several key sequences needed extra resources to bring them to the finish line. After carefully considering all of our options, we decided to extend our schedule, making sure that we get a few more polish passes before submitting our gold master (the final disc for manufacturing).

The multiplayer component just went through a beta test where players were able to try out a few elements of the online gameplay, which includessidekicks, mysticalsand other upgrade options. Check out the first of our 4 part video stream of that event below:

It’s unclear what exactly needs that extra layer of polish, whether it is the single player story or the online multiplayer, but it’s certain the team at Naughty Dog feels that more time is needed to get the game up to the standards of excellence that their games are known for. These are large cinematic games and with their promise to support multiplayer beyond release, this is shaping up to be a sizable package of content, and one they want to be as perfect as possible right out of the gate. WithDark Souls 3scheduled to be released in April as well as a host of other big name games in the first 2 quarters of the year, it’s going to be a packed first half of the year for gaming fans!

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

I’m pretty bummed. I was looking forward to playing in March, but now with it releasing after Dark Souls 3, I doubt I’ll have time to play until like June…

This was pretty disappointing news for me since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the few video games I’m looking forward to this year. Fortunately, I was able to spend some time with its multiplayer beta last month. There are video games in my backlog that I can play in the meantime but it is starting to feel like I spend more time playing (and replaying) older video games than newer ones. I suppose price plays a role here too. There is no shortage of video games that I don’t feel are worth the investment on their release dates. =P

There is something to be said for devs like Bethesda who announce a game after developing most of it and taking a few months to polish it (if you can call “polished” any game initially released by Bethesda).

This is disappointing but not surprising. Regardless, Uncharted 4 and Dark Souls 3 were going to compete for my time in April. Now I have more time to try to platinum The Nathan Drake Collection (or Fallout 4, Wasteland 2…Oh screw it, I never grind for platinums).
