V Rising Expansion Reveals New Magic School, Weapons, and More!
V Rising Secrets of Gloomrot expansion gets more details, including a gameplay trailer.
Everyone’s favorite Vampire Survival game (not called Vampire Survivors) will get its first major update this May. Titled “Secrets of Gloomrot”, we’ve already teased some of thefree expansion’snewest elements. We did know that one of the highlights would be the titular Gloomrot area, which is quite big. It has also been known that multi-level castles were also being introduced.
Well, good news. We have even more details as of late. So much for hiding your secrets, Gloomrot.
The new region of Gloomrot inV Risingwill be large. In fact, it will be the third biggest zone in the game, just after Dunley Farmlands and the starter Farbane Woods. It will be split up into two distinct areas.
Northern Gloomrot is the land of a group known as the Trancendum. These are scientists, tinkerers, and other technologically inclined people who have made it their goal in life to transcend human limitations and unlock the next piece of evolution. The pursuit of “perfection” was inspired by the group’s founder, Dr. Henry Blackbrew. His mission was actually quite commendable in the beginning, as the group’s endeavors were solely focused on helping humanity fight back against the night hordes.
This noble pursuit was eventually twisted and corrupted. Dr. Blackbrew has seemingly gained immortality, but hundreds of years of life have made him different. The Trancendum has now begun keeping its discoveries a secret and has been sacrificing anything and everything to further its goals.
Southern Gloomrot will be festering with pollution and disease. As such, it will have a distinct green glow to most of its environments, signifying how poisonous the area has become. These horrible crimes against nature are a result of the experiments and machinations of the Trancendum. The waste from this group has seeped into the lower Gloomrot, destroying everything that was once beautiful.
V Rising’s Gloomrot is quite a dangerous location. Aside from the various new monsters that outright want to maim you, the very environment itself is also out to get you. Forget the various poisonous and toxic materials lying around. The aptly named Cursed Forest has a choking mist that roams its woods, suffocating anything that gets trapped. Lightning strikes are also quite common in the land of Gloomrot, striking without warning to unlucky passers-by.
Speaking of Lightning, V Rising’s newest magic school is that of Storm. The raw elemental fury of Thunder and Lightning are now at your vampire’s fingertips. Players can fling balls of electricity, create lightning storms at specific areas, or even temporarily become a being of pure energy.
Spells under the Storm School of Magic also seem to inflict the Static debuff. Any physical damage dealt to a target afflicted with Static will cause a magical explosion in a small area around them.
One specific spell, “Polarity Shift” looks quite useful. This allows V Rising players to fling a lightning bolt at their target, dealing damage. The vampire and their prey swap locations after the projectile connects. If the target is a boss or otherwise large entity, the player just teleports beside it instead.
Of course, what would Gloomrot be without a bevy of new additions to V Rising’s bestiary? There will be a total of 13 new bosses that will terrorize the lands of both Gloomrot and the existing areas of Vardoran. One of these bosses is confirmed to be the timeless Dr. Henry Blackbrew himself. Guarding him is one gigantic abomination only known as “The Monster”. He is basically a mishmash of body parts, just like Frankenstein’s creation.
30 new enemy types will fill out the rest of Gloomrot’s population. We will get many varieties of wildlife that have been corrupted and destroyed by pollution. Expect to see some horrid things such as two-headed dogs, diseased deer, or even multi-headed rats. We will also face off against some crazed members of the Trancendum. These foes will be equipped with some technologically advanced gadgetry, which could pose quite a problem for our vampires.
Good thing we’ll have access to new Legendary Weapons as well to take down these beasts. Players can collect broken weapon pieces and eventually restore them to their proper selves. If you’re not a fan or don’t have enough time, players can also collect the new weapon types. Vampires can now take up Dual Pistols or even Greatswords as their weapons of choice.
