V Rising is set to bloody up the fields of battle once more with its free expansion dropping in May of this year.
The team over at Stunlock Studios already announcedlast Decemberthat theirextremely popularvampire survival game,V Rising, would be getting an expansion. However, now we finally have a name and even more details.
Starting in May, Vampires can rise again from their coffins and explore the Secrets of Gloomrot.
One of the most exciting things coming with The Secrets of Gloomrot expansion is the addition of the titular area, Gloomrot. This is “a land of equal parts filth, ambition, brilliance, and madness”. Corruption and madness have taken hold of this region of the world. It is a blighted land, one that is rife with mutations and even the occasional lightning storm.
However, the depths of Gloomrot are also where innovation once thrived. There we can expect to find many technological wonders from the brilliant (yet insane) minds of its inhabitants. V Rising players look like they can expect to find some technologically advanced machinations to add to their castles. Perhaps we can even get some technological marvels, such as those inDracula’s Castle in Castlevania?
The region of Gloomrot itself will be situated on the northernmost section of V RIsing’s map. It will sit comfortably next to the Cursed Forest, providing its own accursed machinations and terrors. Gloomrot will also be almost as large as the Dunley Farmlands.
Also coming to V Rising’s expansion are overhauls to the Castle and land claiming systems. No longer will a fledging vampire be able to plop down a Castle Heart in the middle of nowhere, expanding his lair from that central piece. Instead, the team is experimenting with a system they have called Territories. This essentially allows a player to be able to lay claim to an entire swath of land.
From there, the player will have greater freedom in expanding as they see fit. This Territory system will also try to prevent players from blocking or encroaching on someone else’s land.
The new Territory system will thus allow vampires to build larger bases for their castles, which will allow multiple floors. You heard that right, V Rising castles will no longer be a singular floor! Now, you can have multiple levels to your perfect lair, complete with roofing, scary gargoyles, and impenetrable railings (that will prevent you from falling off).
To help Vampires get around their now enormous castles, new teleporter items are being introduced so that you can quickly zip through predetermined areas. You will also be able to further customize your brooding lair, as more color varieties will now be available for your castle.
V Rising’s spell system will also undertake a major overhaul with the revamp of the Spell Schools and the addition of Jewels. A new, sixth spell school will be introduced later on, but now there aren’t any details on what this may be.
The existing schools of magic, Blood, Unholy, Illusion, Chaos, and Frost, are all being standardized to have about five different offensive spells, a defensive one, and two ultimates. Each one’s theme will be greater accentuated to provide a more distinct identity.
Blood spells will become more life leechy, for example. Then Unholy Spells will inflict debuffs. If an enemy perishes while under the influence of one of these effects, they will spawn skeletal minions. Chaos magic will be more damage focused and will hinder enemy movement. These are just examples of some of the greater focuses.
The new jewel-type items will be introduced as a way for vampires to further customize their spells’ effects. Some effects are simple and can be found on jewels for all types of spells, such as increased damage or reduced cooldowns. Other effects from jewels are unique to specific spells, such as having Agony be an additional debuff on Corpse Explosion.
That’s not all. There are tons of other big and small additions coming to V Rising thanks to the Gloomrot expansion. Some existing areas will be expanded in certain ways. The Dunley Farmlands in particular will be getting a facelift and an expanded playing field.
New varieties of existing enemies will find their way into the world, giving off a fresh feeling whenever you strike a kill. Particularly, some vampires may even consider taking up new weapons, such as the Greatsword. Who knows, you may even be so lucky as to pick up a new Legendary Item being introduced into the expansion.
