Vindictus: Defying Fate – New Fantasy Action RPG Announced

Vindictus: Defying Fatewas just revealed today to be in production by South Korean developer NEXON, said to be heavily inspired by MMORPG:Vindictusdeveloped by the same studio. Along with the announcement came a trailer that showcased some of the fantasy Action-RPG’s combat, which looks to be deliberate and heavier in nature, closer to a Souls game than a hack-n-slash.

In the trailer you can see the main character squaring off against different enemy types, usually one or two at a time, with intense combat that looks very calculated and punishing. It doesn’t seem like you’ll be wading through hordes of enemies, but rather fighting challenging opponents and small groups, much like Dark Souls.

Not a ton of information is currently known about Vindictus: Defying Fate, other than the trailer above, however we do know that there will be aPre-Alpha test taking place on Steamfrom March 13th-March 18th, that players can participate in if they would like to check out the game. There is no official release date listed for Vindictus: Defying Fate, however, so it’s hard to say when the game might launch.

We also know that the game will be available on Steam when it does launch, and that it is planned to have a console launch as well, but the details of what platforms has not yet been worked out, meaning it could be an exclusive OR it might not come to older generation consoles.

There is a bit more information on thegame’s Steam page, stating that the Pre-Alpha test will be single player, but there are plans to implement multiplayer in the future, so Vindictus: Defying Fate is intended to be a multiplayer game. PvP sounds like it will be determined in the future, possibly due to player feedback from the Pre-Alpha test, so if this is something you want, be sure to let NEXON know!

Additionally, Vindictus: Defying Fate will feature a character creator that allows you to customize the appearance of your protagonist. We don’t know how in depth or detailed this will be just yet, but traditionally Eastern RPGs typically have robust character creation features…robust.

Lastly, if you’re wondering how much Vindictus: Defying Fate will cost, or what the intended business model of the game is, you’re out of luck. The only information we currently know is that “The details of the business model are to be decided.” This means that the game could be a buy-to-play game or free-to-play one, and I think it’s likely a lot of that hinges on interest shown by western players during the development of Vindictus.
