Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Beta Warps In This June
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader will be getting a beta this June. It will feature dozens of hours of gameplay, plus a lot of new features never seen in the Alpha.
Praise be the Emperor! Owlcat Games, the legendary minds behind the Pathfinder CRPGs, have just announced a beta for their upcoming title.Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Traderwill be revisiting the Koronus Expanse this coming June 1st.
Exactly who can participate in the Beta isn’t quite known yet. However, the recent Warhammer Skulls showcase gave us a new feature trailer to salivate over. We take a look there at some of the newest features that have never seen the Emperor’s Light until today.
While it may not be a surprise, we do get confirmation on whoWarhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader’s nextcompanionwill be. Say hello to Ulfar, a member of the esteemed Adeptus Astartes, or the Space Marines. Ulfar is from the Space Wolves chapter, one of the original 20 founding chapters.
Inherently fearless and steadfast, the Space Wolves are some of the most vicious warriors in the galaxy. As the chapter is anti-authoritarian, they distrust the hierarchy of command of the Imperium and instead insist on grouping themselves up as smaller “Packs” of battle brothers. Ulfar is the sole survivor of his Pack, who were slain at the hands of the Drukhari Aeldar.
Space Wolves inherit many traits of the animal that they were named after. They have senses that are even keener than the best of the Adeptus Astartes, with eyesight, hearing, and smell being their strongest. Their teeth will grow out into fangs that can ravage even the hardest of armors.
It will be quite interesting to see how exactly Owlcat Games will balance Ulfar. Space Marines in the Warhammer universe are considered to be demigods on the battlefield. Their strength and prowess in combat rivals that of 50 normal men and women of the Imperium. Considering that our companions mostly make up normal (though extremely gifted) people, how will they compare to one of the Emperor’s finest?
Since theKoronus Expanseis vast and treacherous, the Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and their crew need to have a worthy spacefaring vessel to spearhead them through the unknown. As previously expected, Rogue Traders will be able to command their inherited Voiship through the sector and explore various planets and other worlds.
As you go on your merry way, you will turn planets to your favor and into the Emperor’s Light. But expansion and conquest will eventually lead to conflict. The Rogue Trader’s Voidship itself will be able to engage in turn-based ship-to-shipcombat.
The space combat system wasn’t really expanded upon too much in the feature trailer, unfortunately. We only got to see a couple of quick segments that had 1 on 1 fights, and only between capital ships. Each of the game’s companions were also represented on the interface, giving us the impression that they all have their part to play even in warship space fights.
Much like most of the universe, the Koronus Expanse is not safe from the ruinous powers of Chaos. We do know that the Word Bearers, one of the original heretical chapters, will be ahighlight of the game. What we didn’t know before was just which Chaos Gods would be represented in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
As the Word Bearers support Chaos Undivided. This means that they hold no specific allegiance, as long as it’s chaotic). As such, we will get to see all the flavors of the Warp. Khorne, the Blood God, and Nurgle, the Plague Lord are very well-represented already in a lot of Warhammer 40,000 media. Darktide and Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters are the most recent examples). Our Rogue Traderwill get to face off against the followers of Tzeentch, the Chaos God of Change, and Slaanesh, the Chaos God of Excess.
The various Chaos Gods are constantly at odds against each other and are in a constant battle for control of The Warp. The common misconception is that the ruinous powers are all aligned against existence, but this is not the case. What horrors await the Rogue Trader and his retinue if they have to face off against the forces of not one, but four legions of Chaos all at once?
