We Kill Monsters is a Survival Game That Thrives in Challenging Traversal
We Kill Monsters is an upcoming lonely survival action adventure where we kill angels, carry stuff, and more.
Developer Glass Revolver has recently unveiled an intriguing new title known as “We Kill Monsters.” This upcoming game takes the form of a thrilling third-person survival action adventure. It will put players into in the desolate and haunting landscapes of the Dying City of Edinu.
We Kill Monsters is clearly taking notes from its obvious inspiration, Death Stranding. The game looks to deliver a challenging and grueling experience that will leave players on the edge of their seats. Dangerous journeys await, one that will test your mettle and push you to the farthest reaches of The Shell.
Players can look forward to some meticulously crafted lore that forms the backbone of We Kill Monsters. The game revolves around the arduous task of extracting the coveted Primordial Fluid. This is a potent and mysterious substance that lies within the very essence of fallen Angels. It is this energy that holds the key to activating The Great Elevator, a mysterious structure of immense power and unknown origin that stretches deep into the heart of The Shell.
In your quest to uncover more of the Primordial Fluid, you must venture deeper into The Shell while braving the relentless onslaught of its denizens.
The story of “We Kill Monsters” revolves around the desperate plight of the Dying City of Edinu. The city’s last glimmer of hope lies within the extraction of the invaluable Primordial Fluid. However, extracting this precious resource from The Shell presents a daunting challenge. The available Primordial Fluid within the outer layers has been largely depleted, necessitating a perilous journey deeper into the abyss.
As the player, you will assume the role of a unique being known as a homunculus. These homunculi are brought to life solely for the purpose of exploring The Shell and unearthing new sources of Primordial Fluid. The most accessible (though not necessarily easiest) source of this energy? The death of an angel. Your fate is intertwined with the future of the city, and the weight of the world rests upon your shoulders.
Be prepared for a journey that will test your resilience and determination. Inspired by the spirit of Death Stranding, “We Kill Monsters” places a strong emphasis on the concept of a grueling and protracted expedition.
The gameplay in “We Kill Monsters” revolves around the core principles of survival and resource management. While combat plays a vital role, the true essence of the game lies in navigating the expansive and open environments within The Shell. Each layer offers a vast playground, allowing players to freely explore using a range of structures and navigation tools at their disposal.
Each and every level of The Shell is wide, open, and full of terrors. Players must explore each region carefully, in search of any elusive Angels that may have made this level their home. You will need to search the environment for clues of their whereabouts, such as uncovering tracks and other context clues.
Homunculi will also need to scavenge for crucial items. This will include sustenance, powerful weaponry, protective attire, and essential equipment. Survival is paramount in this unforgiving world, and careful resource management is key to enduring the demanding challenges that lie ahead.
As you embark on perilous journeys through The Shell, be mindful of the cargo you carry and the tools at your disposal. The paths ahead will be unpredictable, necessitating quick thinking and adaptability. The ability to seamlessly shift between essential items will prove vital to overcoming the obstacles that stand in your way.
As you can see from the footage, the player’s homunculi seem to always be carrying a ton of stuff, just like Sam Porter Bridges. How you fight is anyone’s guess at this point, but do know that each of the items you carry will be essential to your survival. You never know when that bundle of ropes can be used to climb up a steep mountainside.
However, amidst the perils that await, there are moments of respite. Glass Revolver has designed We Kill Monsters as an immersive adventure that can be enjoyed by up to four players simultaneously. Rally your friends and prepare to descend into the deepest layers of The Shell, driven by a shared goal to reach its mysterious and elusive bottom.
Players can also take advantage of the opportunity to establish camps at any given time. These sanctuaries provide a much-needed reprieve, allowing you to rest, replenish your strength, engage in item trading, and gather around the comforting warmth of a crackling fire. Sometimes, a group can even indulge in the soul-soothing melodies of a guitar strummed by friends.
Structures known as Primordial Fountains also dot the landscape. These ancient buildings can be used by homunculi to enter the void and join up with other players’ worlds.
Glass Revolver initially revealed the dark and dreary world of We Kill Monsters last year. It offered fans an enticing glimpse into the game’s early development stages, but not too much since then. More recently, the game has made an appearance at Annapurna Interactive’s latest showcase, reigniting excitement and anticipation among eager fans.
For now, We Kill Monsters has only been confirmed to release on PC via Steam. No console ports have been planned or announced thus far. Additionally, no release date has been announced just yet as only a “To be Announced” banner adorns the game’s Steam Page.
In the meantime, Glass Revolver already has two games under its belt. We have ITTA, a bullet-hell boss-rush-styled action game, and House of God, a 2D action roguelike shooter.
