World of Horror is created by developer Pawel Kozminski who describes this game’s story as a “cosmic horror”. Set in an isolated Japanese seaside town, things just don’t seem to go right. Choosing from five playable character, players can learn about their backstories and about their unique perspectives of the world plunging into chaos. The game offer turn-based combat with roguelite elements, played through a deck of cards to depict events with unforgiving consequences.
The game’s focuses on building a sense of unease and dread. The artstyle is inspired by retro games, displayed only in black and white accompanied by a haunting chiptune soundtrack. While you won’t run into any jump scares, it concentrates on unnerving terrors and impending doom. The retro throwback title is set to be a “hellish roguelite” with turn-based combat, set in a world where the Old Gods are returning to the world. If you’re looking for an alternative horror, this might be worth checking out. Probably the most haunting of all, the game was actually 100% hand-drawn in Microsoft Paint. Now that’s some commitment.
