Zenless Zone Zero Grace Build Guide
In thisZenless Zone Zero Grace Build Guidewe’re going to be covering anElectric dps Grace build. This build is versatile, and can play as either main dps, or sub dps. Grace has good synergy with a lot of characters, and may focus on shock damage, or distortion damage. It can face most challenges, and do hard mode as early as it’s available. And for Endgame modes, she can challenge bothShiyu Defense, andHollow Zero.
Grace is a standard banner, five star character, that you get from either the beginners banner, character selector at 300 wishes, or from losing your50:50chance on rate up banners like Ellen’s. She’s an AOE rangedElectricdamage dealer withAnomalyfighting style, who belongs toBelobog Heavy Industriesfaction.
She can either stay on field as main dps, or apply her shock anomaly and switch out. Or even adapt quick swap team. She also comes with movement attacks, that enable her to be on constant movement without losing dps. This is very useful in avoiding enemy attacks, and get better positioning all the time.
Grace is one of the best damage dealer in entire Zenless Zone Zero, as of version1.0. Not only she’s capable of doing high damage for prolonged period of time, she also has great support characters. Four star characters such asAntoncan benefit greatly from having Grace is his team, they activate each others passives, and work as dual dps. Grace also works withAnby, another four star starter character. On other hand,Gracecan get great upgrades with five star characters such asRina. So she’s off to a great start, and have potential to scale up even further in endgame.
The rotation of Grace can be as simple as spamming fixed combo, or involve switch cancel and highly complicated tricks. So Grace can satisfy the preferred playstyle for wide variety of players, and is much fun to play.
Another reason to play Grace is staying safe at range while learning enemy moves and game mechanics. Grace can move while attacking, so enemies rarely able to find her in one place. This enable Grace to abandon any defensive support characters, and focus on pure dps and buffer teams.
In Zenless Zone Zero, combat unfold in similar fashion to Fighting Games, and Grace is no exception. You can dodge, perfect dodge, parry through character switch, perform special attacks, and extra special attack. That’s on top of normal attacks and Ultimate, and you weave these together across three characters to beat enemies.
Majority of skills leveling in Grace build affects only numerical values of damage and daze multiplier. As all active skills are available from level1onward, and their function doesn’t change with levels. So the skill leveling priority depends on the dps output.
Grace has a four AOE normal attack combo chain, that can’t be interrupted by any other skill or action. This keep the rotation smooth, fluid, and very flexible. She can adapt to enemy attacks and changes in battlefield, and never lose her normal attack progress.
Grace’s basic attack combo deal physical damage, which build up to reach highest damage on fourth combo. The damage of fourth hit is almost equal to all first three attacks combined, so performing it is crucial. It also instantly fill her Core skill stacks, so overall very important. And not losing combo progress helps a lot.
Note that Grace doesn’t rely on standard damage as much as relying on Anomaly stats to deal Shock damage. And that normal attacks deals Physical not electric damage, which is further away from her electric scaling.
If you hold a direction while performing normal attacks, Grace make aMoving Shot. This deals way less damage, but enable Grace to be on constant move, to improve positioning, and avoid enemy attacks without dodging.
The Daze multiplier of Grace attacks is very low, compared to other dps characters. And even lower compared to proper Stun characters. So if you need to stun a boss, you better switch out Grace as soon as possible to a proper stun character such asAnby. Then come back later when the enemy is stunned.
Pressing Special attack button without full energy get Grace to throw an Electric grenade, that’s mostly single target. It deal kind of low damage, but very important to trigger core skill and discharge Zap stacks. This is an important source of increasing Electric Anomaly Buildup, which results in Shock after certain threshold.
The ideal combo of Grace on-field is as follows:
There are more advanced combos that involve dash attacks to charge Zap faster and use more special attacks in same time frame. Such combos performed by using:
I’ll not go into much details in this Grace basic guide. Keep an eye out for our advanced team guides for endgame in the future, which is a better space to cover such advanced combos.
The same Special Attack, but when energy bar has 40 energy or higher. Consumes this amount, and throw two grenades to deal much higher damage in AOE, with higher Daze multiplier. It also has much faster Electric Anomaly Buildup, which usually result in instant Shock.
Energy in Zenless Zone Zero can over-cap, so don’t use EX Special Attack immediately, and fill Zap stacks normally before using. Note that Grace is invulnerable during this attack, so it can be used to tank dangerous hits.
The energy cost of Grace is very small, so she can refill it fairly fast. This results in frequent use of EX Special Attack, and more Shock inflicted.
Pressing dodge, then normal attack enables Grace to perform “Dash Attack: Quick Inspection“, which is a small hit that deal low physical damage. Dash attacks fills Zap stacks, so Grace can use in the combo to increase Zap build up. However, it’s rarely used, since Grace has movement in her normal combo.
On other hand, pressing dodge in perfect timing before boss hits, perform Perfect dodge. Following a Perfect Dodge with normal attack triggers“Dodge Counter: Violation Penalty”. Perfect Dodges are indicated by visual cues. An orange flash signals the right moment to dodge, turning the screen grey and rendering your character invulnerable for a brief period. Dodge Counter deal Electric damage, and doesn’t build up Zap stacks, but it help Electric Anomaly Buildup.
So it’s a sure way to trigger Shock, and against aggressive enemies, you may shorten Grace rotation by a lot. All she need is repeating dodge counters, (only two times in short period, then it goes into cooldown). Then she fill the gap with couple extra Special Attacks to build Shock and then switch.
Grace has two types of Assist skill,Evasive Assist, triggered by switching to Grace in perfect timing before enemy attacks. This Assist gets Grace on Field, then evade enemy attack in similar fashion to Perfect Dodge. However, the next press of normal attack triggers“Assist Follow-Up: Counter Volt Needle”rather than Dodge Counter.
Assist Follow-Up is a great source of damage, as Grace both throws a grenade, and launch a bullet barrage in AOE. She also may move freely for a short period while enemy is still confused by theEvasive Assist. And it help increase the stun meter, since it has good Daze multiplier.
A trick to do while playing Grace on field, is to watch boss moves, and switch out Grace rapidly before enemy charge their attack. Then switch her back in with Perfect Assist, to trigger Assist Follow-Up. This tip also help players if they panic and switch too early accidently, before the orange flash appear. All they have to do is switch back, and get the Assist on Grace instead. Very useful for Grace on-field variation of the build.
The other Assist is“Quick Assist: Incident Management”, which is a recover from character losing their footing. When the enemy launches the on-field character in the air, press switch, and Grace will come in, throwing a grenade. It deal Electric damage, but at low value. The main advantage of quick assist is continue attacking with another character, instead of enemy locking you into knock-up animation.
Chain attacks are Unique type of attacks, where game zooms in and pauses, to allow player a special switch. Unlike Assist that require switching at perfect timing before enemy attacking, Chain require hitting stunned enemy with heavy Attack. This enable characters to chain their attacks together, and the number of chain depends on the enemy tier.
A boss enemy trigger3Chain, Elite enemy trigger2Chain, and normal enemy trigger1Chain. And even your Bangboo can join the Chain, and it doesn’t consume the chain count. So you can switch to your Bangboo an extra free time. While exiting, the Chain may triggerQuick Assistto bring back your previous on-field character.
For Anomaly characters such as Grace, the Chain damage multiplier’s on the lower side. So it’s better to chain from Grace to other characters in most cases. It help though with Electric Anomaly Buildup, so a good skill to use still.
The Ultimate in Zenless Zone Zero is located under Chain Attack scaling, so leveling the Chain Skill of Grace will increase damage of both.
Ultimate doesn’t use energy, but uses an alternative Decibel system. That’s a numerical value displayed on top left of the screen, and stacks up to3000, which is the amount needed to unleash Ultimate.
Only one character may use Ultimate, because one Ultimate use consumes the whole3000Decibel. So players need to make a decision, about which of the three characters in team to use Ultimate. And the answer is not always the main dps.
In case of Grace, her Ultimate throw a grenade that split into four grenades, hitting enemies in AOE. It has the lowest damage multiplier in the game. And due to Grace focusing on Shock and Disorder damage more than direct damage, it’s not always the ideal choice to Choose Grace Ultimate over other characters.
If team has two damage dealers, it’s usually best to use other damage dealer Ultimate. Or use the a support or Stun character’s Ultimate, for extra benefits beside damage.
Grace can build up to 8 Zap stacks, and upon reaching max stacks, her Special Attack consumes them. When Zap is consumed, the Electric Anomaly Buildup increase by by65%~130%, depending on core passive level.
The Core passive levels up by allocating other smaller passives. These smaller passives accumulate to increase theAnomaly Mastery(Up to+36), andBase ATK(Up to+75).
Zap stacks build only with skills that deal Physical damage, so Grace’s Normal Attacks, and Dash Attack. Electric attacks doesn’t build Zap, but build up Anomaly straight away. So you better learn the ideal combo to build Zap and discharge it for max Shock buildup.
This is the team passive bonus, that depends on team composition. If Grace team has second character with same element (Electric) or faction (Belobog Heavy Industries), she gets the bonus.
It’s a buff to Shock damage on enemy hit by EX Special Attack. It has18%value, and stack two times. Shocks lasts for 10 second by default, and the buff reset at end of duration, assuming Shock doesn’t refresh. If you refresh the Shock on all enemies, you get near permanent uptime.
For this Zenless Zone Zero Grace Build, gear is a crucial part, and W-Engines is a major part of gearing. Grace DPS scales with various factors.Anomaly Proficiencyis the main stat that scales the Sock (And Disorder) damage, so it must be highest priority. Then comesAnomaly Masterythat help Grace build up the Shock faster. On other hand, her standard Electric Damage scales withATK,Crit, andElectric damagestats.
So Grace need a weapon with high ATK andAnomaly Proficiencyabove all else.
Grace doesn’t need Energy Recharge, since her EX Special skill cost merely 40 energy, and she charge it pretty fast. So she ignore Energy Recharge, and focus on pure damage weapons. Grace has Anomaly fighting style, and there have access to varied selection of weapons with Anomaly, both limited and free.
The free weapon you can start with, if you fail to pull any usable B Rank.Bravois the only B Rank weapon withAnomaly Proficiencystat, so it’s automatically the better starter choice. Especially with all B Rank weapons having same base ATK.
Being a B Rank, players can getBravoto maximum refinement so easily. The passive grants Grace additional40Anomaly Proficiencyfor10severy20s. So it help playing a kind of burst style.
A Rank weapons comes from either crafting, or dropping randomly from wishing. Over a prolonged period of time, it’s almost guarantee to get all A rank weapons. However, up to that point though, you might have restricted access to weapons. So I mention them from lowest priority to highest.
Weeping Geminihas a moderate base ATK, an ATK sub stat, and a passive that giveAnomaly Proficiency. The passive trigger when any character in team inflict Anomaly on an enemy, and stacks up to four times. The stacks reset though, if target recovers from stun, or defeated. This makes the passive uptime goes up and down, according to how battle unfolds. Overall a decent pick, if you lack better alternatives.
However, if you get higher refinement with more copies, it grows better than next weapon. At max refinement, and with only two stacks of passive, the passive give moreAnomaly Proficiencythan sub stats in dedicatedAnomaly Proficiencyweapons. (46Anomaly Proficiencyper stack)
The standard weapon withAnomaly Proficiencysub stat, same base ATK as other A Rank, and an ATK passive. This make the weapon much better thanWeeping Geminiwithout refinement. ButWeeping Geminicatches up at higher refinment.
Rainforest Gourmetcan be crafted, but since it’s not the best A Rank, you better save the resources.
On top of havingAnomaly Proficiencysub stat, this weapon has very strong passive. It gives ATK and all-damage multiplier. The condition to trigger such a bonus is very easy, only have an enemy inflicted with an Anomaly. It doesn’t matter which Anomaly you Inflict, or which enemy has it, as long as enemy is still alive.
Note that triggering Disorder only consume the Anomaly applied first, not the second applied one. So you don’t lose the weapon buff so easily.
The only S rank weapon for Anomaly characters at launch, which you may get in various ways. You may lose 50:50 on any five star character banner and get it, or you can purchase from the Signal Shop after saving enough currency. The currency comes wishing and getting duplicate characters. So for free-to-play players, it may take couple months to save 600 Residual Signals.
The weapon itself has the highest base ATK, Def penetration sub stat, and a stackingAnomaly Proficiencypassive. The passive stacks by using Special Attacks, which Grace uses pretty often. So we maintain high count of these stacks with ease.
Similar to Relics fromHonkai Star Rail, Artifacts fromGenshin Impact, and Echoes fromWuthering Waves; Drive Disks in Zenless Zone Zero Grace Build works as gear. We have six slots to equip Drive Disks, and we restricted to using certain Disks in certain slots.
Drive Disks comes in sets, and each set gives bonus at2pieces, and4pieces. So in ideal setup, we use a full set with4pieces, and a half set with2pieces. But while leveling and before farming enough good pieces from one set, we may use hybrid2–2–2Setup. But that’s only a temporary solution.
In this Zenless Zone Zero Grace Build, the first three slots I, II, and III have all fixed main stats. These are Flat HP, Flat ATK, and Flat DEF. On other slots, we aim to get these main stats:
Grace finds easy time getting her energy up, to use EX Special Skill. So we don’t aim to get Energy Recharge from main stats. Anomaly Proficiency affects Shock and Disorder damage, while Anomaly Mastery affects how fast Grace applies Shock.
For sub stats, get more Anomaly Proficiency, % ATK, and PEN ratio. You may get one or two Crit Rate stats, to get close to 25% Crit Rate which help getting 1:2 ratio between Crit rate and Crit DMG.
That’s because default Crit DMG is 50% while default Crit Rate is merely 5%. However, Crit only affect direct damage, not Shock or Disorder damage.
Grace uses either Electric set (Thunder Metal), or Anomaly Proficiency set (Freedom Blues). The decision for farming which set over the other is affected by various factors. I recommend farming the most effective one, where your characters benefit from both sets available in the Routine Cleanup.
Electric Set drops from same Cleanup as Physical Set. While Anomaly set drops together with Ice set. So if you got an Ice dps such asEllenyou also farm for, you get to farm for both Grace and Ellen. Otherwise, if you buildPiper, you instead farm physical and Electric Set.
Electric Set gives10%Electric DMG as two pieces bonus, and28%ATK if there are a shocked enemy. While Anomaly Set gives30Anomaly Proficiency on two pieces, and reduce enemy Anomaly Buildup Resistance. This resistance shred apply only to the wielder of Anomaly Set, not entire team. So it can’t be used on support characters. Grace can build her Shocks faster with this set, and that help a lot if Grace is played as a sub-dps.
Teams inZenless Zone Zeroconsist of three characters, and to build Grace right, we have to pair her with two suitable companions.Gracecan either be a main-dps or sub-dps, and always rely on Shock and/or Disorder to do damage. This encourage a team with characters that apply Anomaly fast enough, to Trigger Disorder and deal massive damage.
Other Factor in selecting a team for Grace, is theAdditional Ability Passivethat trigger from having either Electric companion, or someone fromBelobog Heavy Industriesfaction. Then there’s the Bangboo you use, which sometimes require specific team comp, such as two Electric characters.
The best Bangboo for all team combinations isPlugboo. It require two electric characters to activate, but even without two, it still help buildup shock faster. So rarely you would use a replacement.
This team has only Electric characters, so it trigger Shock, and doesn’t have other element to trigger Disorder. Even Though Shock apply its damage over time, and triggering it again doesn’t add a lot of dps. ButAntonprovide an alternative solution, through proccing the Shock effect with his“Additional Ability Teamwork”.
WhileAntonis in Burst Mode, for every4critical hits, the next hit against Shocked enemies triggers an additional Shock DMG at45%of the original DMG. This entail that Grace need to apply her Shock once, switch out, andAntonneed to be on field for the duration ofGraceShock. It also requireAntonto build as much Crit Rate as possible.
On other hand, whileRinais best buffer for this team, she’s not as mandatory asAnton. If you didn’t pull Rina, you can replace her with any suitable Support character. Free characters such asNicolemay fill this last slot.
What makesRinavery strong is that she provide several buffs, tailor-made for this team. She increase Shock Duration by3seconds via her“Additional Ability Banquet of Perfection”. She also gives10%Electric DMG bonus, and on top of that, she give Def Penetration to the team, scaling with her own PEN Ratio stat.
SoRinaenable Anton to stay longer on field, utilizing one Shock for longer. And make all team damage increase significantly. WhileNicolehelp gather enemies, and shred their DEF, which also help increase team damage, but by a bit smaller value.
We now start mixing another element in the team, by adding Physical character such asPiper. She’s an Anomaly character similar toGrace, so she can trigger her own Anomaly (Assault) fast enough. An enemy can’t have two Anomaly together, so Triggering Shock fromGrace, then Assault fromPiperwill result in Disorder.
Disorder result in the consumption of first Anomaly on the enemy (Shock), and causes it to deal its entirety of damage immediately. Shock by default deals damage every second for10seconds, but with Disorder forces it to deal the remaining ticks in an instant, resulting in a massive damage. And at same time, it enableGraceto re-apply shock again, and repeat
Depending on how fast you switch fromGracetoPiper, and how fastPiperapply her Assault; You can trigger Disorder faster, and with longer duration remaining, for more damage.
That’s whereRinacomes in play, because she add 3 extra seconds to shock. In Disorder team, this is like 30% increase in total Disorder Damage.
If you don’t haveRina, then useLucy. The thing aboutPiperis that she need to activate her“Additional Ability Synced Acceleration”a team wide 18% all damage buff. This passive require either a physical team mate, or a member ofSons of Calydonfaction. Since most other physical characters in version1.0roster doesn’t fitGraceTeam, thenLucyis the only option. She belongs toSons of Calydonfaction, and enable the additional ability. As well as providing massive flat ATK buff to help team dps.
Anbyis an Electric Stun character, so she is good team mate to enable Grace passive ability, as well as stun enemies. She’s generally the best starter character to learn all the mechanics of the game. Her combos can be very simple, or very advanced with advanced Crowd Control techniques.
Stun is her specialty, and she’s very good at it, making her a comfort choice to disable enemies. This gives opening toGraceandPiperto do their rotations comfortably. EspeciallyPiperwho can face tank a lot of damage while being stuck in spinning and unable to dodge or parry.
In this team, Piper doesn’t activate her passive, but Grace activates hers instead, so it’s a fair trade.
This is advanced form of the stun team, with looser playstyle. We add the fire, stun, five star character,Koleda. She’s fromBelobog Heavy Industries, so she enableGracepassive. At same time, she’s a stun character likeAnby, but has more dps potential.
Koledacan stun enemies more often, and she can apply Burn with her attacks while doing so. This combination allow team to proc additional different Disorder, since Anomaly buildup doesn’t go away. So ifKoleda(who has slower application due to not being Anomaly character) apply 50% of burn buildup before switching; This value doesn’t go away after you apply another Anomaly like Shock.
It stay on enemy, and whenKoledareturn again to continue doing fire damage, the buildup of Burn resume. This result in Koleda proccing Burn eventually, and with it a Disorder from previous Anomaly whether Assault or Shock. Then you switch her out, and reapply Shock and Assault, and proc another two disorder between them. And she apply burn again, and repeat.
This setup is useful against certain floors in Shiyu Defense endgame mode, where enemies gain shields that only goes away with certain elements. When the two sides doesn’t have an enemy weak to Electric, you may useKoledawithGraceandPiper. Therefore, you can break fire shields faster, and still play your Shock team.
This wouldn’t be necessary if you have a dedicated team for each single element, but that’s not easy. The game doesn’t give enough resources to level and build so many characters at launch; Let alone getting a whole team of each element.
If you are starting out, and got yourGrace, but don’t have neitherPiper, norAnton, or you don’t want to build them; Then this team is what you start with.AnbyandGraceshare same element, so they proc each other’s passive. AndNicoleshareAnbyFaction, so she activate her own passive as well.
Nicolegather enemies and shred DEF of them, Anby stun and help buildup Shock, and Grace play main dps. The total dps potential of this Zenless Zone Zero Grace Build is lower than other variants, but it’s still a decent team. It will get you through most content, and only fall short against the highest difficulty levels.
Grace is an excellent early pick, that have high potential for endgame. But unless you reroll your account at start, there’s no guarantee to get her. However, after making 200 wishes on standard banner, you get to select a standard five star character as a reward. This milestone is months away for free-to-play players, as you shouldn’t waste premium currency on wishes on standard banner.
Use Grace the way you prefer, she’s more flexible than it appear. And while some team mates make her shine more brightly, she still function in any team. To and extent of placing Grace as secondary dps in any established team that have room for flexible slot.
